When Sony initiated the 40GB PlayStation 3 at a lower price in Japan, it was instantly received with great success. When November 2nd, came around, the Sony rolled the dice in North America to see if triumph will shine over the PS3 in the more dominant market.

Since then, the word has been that the PlayStation 3 is seeing great growth in North America since the addition of the 40GB PS3 model. However, Sony never officially came out and gave confirmation on the 40GB’s success in North America.

Most recently, Sony has revealed that sales of the 40GB and even 80GB models have “more than doubled” overall in North America. Highlighting on the exact numbers, Sony mentioned that the sales has increased by 192% in the top ten retailers in North America. This is all great news for Sony, but it must be noted that Sony should definitely increased the number of units shipped per month. In October, the Nintendo shipped 519,000 units of the Wii while Microsoft shipped 366,000 units. This is in comparison to the mere 121,000 shipped PS3 units.

Sony’s big plunge for success will come next month as the holiday season really heats up and consumers show their side of interest in the gaming industry.

    this is awesome. ps3 is going to outsell 360 sometime, just you wait. is there a site to see weekly/monthly sales of the consoles?

    @jamisonsalamande

    PS3 is already outselling 360 big time, just not in overall sales. That would be quite impossible, unless you are bastar.ds about "gaming" like Nintendo. They totally screwed up what gaming is supposed to be. I myself have a Wii, and I wish I would have used that 400 dollars + I spent on it for software and accessories for my PS3. But I'll make the most of what I have, hey, at least i have metroid...and super smash brothers...

    They're doing better in Japan too. Even though sales dropped they still managed to outsell the other 2 systems for a 3rd straight week. UT3 should really help US sales next month too. Sony needs to take the Gears of War approach with this game and air commercials for it numerous times a day until Christmas.

    @Tom_Ass I agree 100% with you sony needs to take the opportunity Epic is giving them and run with it.  Air commercials like crzy for the game.  Hype this game up like it was Halo.  This game being the number 1 game for this year on my list(higher than CoD4 even though that game is truly amazing) should help sony sell thousands of consoles.

    @Azmatic

    I'm pretty much the most hardcore gamer you'll meet buddy. Played every kind of game. And some games are just hard to compare because of different gameplay styles, opinion, etc.

    But COD4 is definately one of the best games ever, if not the number one game out as of today. UT3? We'll have to see. But if it's half as good as COD4, we have ourselves one helI of a time ahead of us.

    121,000 X 2 = 242,000, which is over 100,000 less then the 360 sold. Even if the number was TRIPLED it wouldn't be that of the 360. Sad, but true.

    its highly possible that the 360 october npd is still coming off the halo effect. 360 sales might get closer to the npd numbers back in august with 276k or july numbers of 170k. also, if more people are buying PS3's, its possible that less people are buying 360's or Wii's.

    Its not so bad when u consider how expensive PS3 still is, how little software there is available, and finally how much the Wii is in fashion right now. Once Sony pushes into next year and more games are released it'll soon pick up. Bear in mind that 360 sales (halo3 apart) have slowed down due to the hardware failures and its a perfect time for Uncharted to bring in some new gamers, its f'in brilliant.

    @golionsgo: are you dense or something? "up by 192%" means that the PS3 has sold 192% more than it did last month . So the total is 100% + 192% = 292% which makes for about 353,000 which is pretty damn close to the 360

    if microsoft wants to have sucess in this kind of market they will have to come up with something new, because x360 CAN NOT compete with ps3, X360 SIMPLY SUXX !!!!

    something seems fishy to me about the Wii's numbers. I mean sure people seem towant to buy it... because it's cheap... but I never see people actually getting them. they always seem sold out. If they're shipping so many of them why are there none in stores? you;d think the stock might back up atleast a little but they're ALWAYS sold out like their shipped numbers arent totalling what they claim to be selling.

    I was at best buy the other day, looking at the PS3 games, someone already had an 80gig in hts shopping cart, and a couple minutes later some guy swooped in and grabbed a 40 gig, I mean this guy pushed his way through to get it. Oh yeah I bought Uncharted, Awesome game, better then the Tomb Raider games.
