Sony's Gamer Day 08: Killzone 2 Video Walkthrough
Two New Killzone 2 Gameplay Videos
SEGA's Alpha Protocol datedIn the latest announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment, the U.S. and Canada will now be receiving the 40GB PS3 model bundled with Spiderman 3 BD for USD 399, and the 80GB for the reduced price of USD 499.
With these new changes, consumers must now know that when comparing the three consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii), the PlayStation 3 is the best buy for this X-mas. Not only is it a bang for your buck, but it also offers the best features.
This comparison will go over price, features, and upcoming games for each console. Click the image to view larger version

As you can see every PlayStation 3 comes with at least 40GB of hard drive space, crucial for game saves, downloadable content, and games requiring HDD for streaming data. Also, every PlayStation 3 comes equipped with Blu-ray disc drives and HDMI outputs to enable users to watch beautiful high definition 1080p movies.
You might say that the Xbox 360 system is also equipped with hard-drives and HDMI outputs but the problem lies in there being no HD format playback built-in. For Xbox gamers to enjoy 1080p movies they must buy an additional HD-DVD add-on at a price of USD 179. Also with the Xbox 360 bragging about its amazing online services, people forget that in order to play without Ethernet, gamers must buy a Wireless adapter for USD 99. Oh, and of course the yearly or monthly Xbox live fee ranging from USD 7.99 for one month to USD 49.99 for a year.
When you add all this up, the premium Xbox 360 (with HD-DVD player, Wireless adapter, and year of Xbox Live) could be costing buyers USD 677 (and people think the PS3 is expensive!)
Now let's talk about the Nintendo Wii. Yes, it is the cheapest console on the market, but for everyone upgrading their TV's to new 720p or 1080p HDTV's people are going to want high definition video. The max the Wii supports is 480p, and with no support for HD-DVD/Blu-ray or even plain DVD playback, the longevity of this console comes into question.
Looking ahead, for those of you wondering what the future holds, here is a quick comparison of upcoming popular titles for each console. (This is not an accurate depiction of all titles of each genre.) Click the image to view full size.

So if you are a gamer without a next gen system or are looking to buy your family a new console this holiday season, we strongly suggest the PlayStation 3. It has all the needed features (Blu-ray/DVD playback, free online service, built-in hard drive) and for the current price it's quite the steal.
Oh, and if you buy your PlayStation 3 before the end of the year, don't forget, the Blu-ray Disc Association is giving away 5 free blu-ray movies for free with purchase of specified BD players (including the PS3).
Sweet Compition for the other consoles for Xmas!
Seeing that the PS3 sales rose an estimated 140% in Europe with the inroduction of the 40gb ps3, we will see the same here. Also, amazon.com witnessed a huge sales spike with the 80gb bundle. This xmas will be good.
looks really good actually. not bad solid titles
Ps3 isnt just the best buy at christmas time, its the best buy anytime! With this new price drop, i hope it sells millions more before 2008.
399$ is a great price but If it was at 349$.. I think it would pull in a solid 2½-3 mill by the end of the holiday season.
i dont need more a reasons to buy a PS3, i already had the ones that matters the most :FFXIII, MGS , GoW, GT5 and TEKKEN6
The sales rose 178% in EU...or maybe that was just the UK...not too sure. However, with the great content on teh way the future looks set for a shile...having said that, M$ will be pushing Gears of War 2 much so prepare for the flaming matches on the forums...
and dont forget about how much batteries cost for the xbox. id have to replace them after 2 weeks of play. Ps3's always been the best
Makes you feel good being a PS3 owner. PS3, it's in the box!!!
now that's very clear...from hardware to software...PS3 rules xbox
Nice comparison, PSU!!!!
i already knew ps3 was the best, that's why i sold my 360. can we say the KING IS BACK.
I seriously can't wait to get a 60gig this year. Saving nearly every dinero just to get one. :)
Why Team Ninja......WHY!! I must play NG2 at all cost. Dammit!
I own both a PS3 and a 360. Since I got my 360 in september of last year, I bought 2 games (Condemned and Gears of War). Since I've had my PS3 on the glorious day of 11/17/06 (I stood in line for 3 days), I've bought six PS3 games (VF5, Resistance, Folklore, Warhawk, NG Sigma, and Motorstorm) and that's not including downloadables. I think that the PS3 just has a much better lineup.
360 (premium) - "HDMI out: Yes"
I dont think so! Its only on Elite & PS3(20, 40, 60, 80GB)
The problem is, the "value" of a gaming system is largely an opinion-based things. Posting chart comparisons doesn't change that.
This "value" is determined based on the features and games you want.
Let's say I only want a fraction of the exclusive games out for, or coming out for, the PS3. I'm more interested in games coming out for the 360.
I don't care about high definition movies.
Graphics matter, but I don't care if a port for the PS3 runs better than the 360 or vice-versa unless it's a huge difference.
I can't run all PS3 games in high def, because I have an older CRT HDTV that only does 1080i, not even 720p.
With all that, my challenge is:
Please explain how the PS3 is a better value.
^^Ferre, actually the new 360 premiums have HDMI out. All the ones with a manufacture date of July 2007 or later do
^Silellak, on the 1080i part, with the 1.94 firmware that comes bundled with R&C Future, all PS3 games will be able to be scaled to all resolutions. That takes out that part
silellak 1080i and 720p have virtually no difference at all. they are the same
Well since I had mine PS3 from tha very beginning....it's great for some people that dont have one! My PS3 still running like a champ and will keep me warm thru tha winter!!! Haze, Assassain Creed, Raw vs. Smackdown 2008..will keep me busy!!!
^^^ SolsticeZero20
I hadn't heard about 1.94 fixing that. I tried looking on Google but couldn't find an article. Did you have a source? It would be cool, if true. I heard upscaling on the PS3 was difficult if not impossible due to the lack of a dedicated hardware scaling chip.

I know 720p and 1080i are virtually identical, but currently, the PS3 will downscale a game to 480p if the TV doesn't support 720p and the game doesn't support 1080i. The 360 will just automatically upscale every game to 1080i. I'm not paying $400+ for a next-gen HD system to play games in 480p

I have seen HD movies. I have an HDTV, and HD cable, and have recorded movies in HD. Yes, it's very nice, but it's not worth buying an HD movie player and re-buying the DVD movies I already have. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray aren't the leaps over DVD that DVD was over VHS. DVD provided improved video, audio, and features - such as audio commentary, scene selection, etc. It was a drastic change. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray mostly provide improved video and audio, with some interesting special features but nothing HUGE like scene selection. HD isn't going to route DVD anytime soon. Why? Because most American homes don't even have an HDTV yet. One could say the PS3 is "preparing for the future", but for me, it just has a larger price due to functionality *I* don't need.
And there are PS3 games I'd be interested in - MGS4, FF13 - but nothing to justify its current price to ME, when the other games I want - Mass Effect, Assassin's Crede, GTA 4 - are already on a system I own.
My point isn't that the PS3 sucks, or the PS3 isn't a good value, it's that this article seems to ignore the fact that value is in the high of the beholder, and that value can't be compared just by showing feature charts sitting next to each other.
In the end, it's all about the games. Buy the GAME system with the GAMES you want the most. If that's the PS3, great. If that's the 360, great. If that's the Wii, great.
Everything else is just fluff.
why do i keep hearing its all about games the games count games are all that matters cmon then why do ps2 able to play dvd cmon Sony said from the start that they want the ps3 to be an all around entertainment system not just a game console and thats what next gen is all about entertainment not just games
finally a game site has pointed out the ps3 is a better buy. Go and get a ps3 main!
Wow, the PS3 is coming out with a ton more shooters than the 360. Who says the 360 is a shooter console. They are focusing a lot on the RPG front.....too bad all there RPGs suck
I have been saying that the PS3 is great value and no more expensive then 360 (actually less expensive) if you factor in the wifi, blue ray and free online.
Thats not all though, PS3 can use any SATA 2.5" hard drive, you don't need to buy rechargable batteries for the controllers saves you even more money.
I sure am glad I got a 60GB. It's the best BC version, and it's a launch console at that. And that seriously matters to me since there's still a few PS2 games I need to play, and a couple more on the way.
Looking at the games part it shows that crackdown 2 is comming out.... I thought that it has been confirmed that there is no sequel to that one???
Xbox 360 SUCKS!
No questions can be set, this is only the very thruth...
psn id: gingo... ps3 certainly seems like the best console to get this year with these statistics
Update made to the Wii and Gamecube BC
I actually didn't buy PS3 for the announced games, Silellack. I bought it for the great hardware, and for the assurance that I will be able to buy future games for this piece for many years. And I don't have to replace it after a year (like the X-box).
PS2 to PS3 - 2000 - 2007 [PS2 still on the market]
Xbox to Xbox 360 - 2001 - 2005 [X-box died a year ago]
In addition to that, they still make games for PS2. Unlike the X-box which is completely scrapped just like the 360 will be in 2 years or so.
ive been telling the same sutff to people for a long time and the just dissed me: the fact that the 360 doesnt have the HDDVD player bundled and no wifi either. as for the wii.... most of my friends have that but there are like 3 good games already out: zelda, metroid, and strikers(whioch is a remake!)
