*UPDATED* Resistance 2 revealed!

The latest issue of the Gameinformer has got yet another huge exclusive first-look, and this time it is Resistance 2, made by the brilliant Insomniac Games who have already brought Resistance: Fall of Man and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction to PlayStation 3.
The first ever Resistance 2 preview revealed that the game will feature one campaign focused on Nathan Hale in the USA, which will be a single player mode. Secondly, the game will have a separate story campaign which will support two players offline and up to eight players online!

But that isn't just it...the game will support a 60 (yes, sixty) player online mode. It will have its own dedicated game community, with full stat tracking on myresistance.net. The online mode will feature classes such as heavy weaponry, special ops and medic. The focus for the online mode will be squad vs. squad and not fast and furious gameplay. Of course the game will also feature some new vehicles including the Chameleon, which is a stalker with the possibility of total cloaking.
The game has pushed the capabilities of the PlayStation 3 even further. More enemies are said to be on the screen, and of course the game will feature a better AI and better lighting and shaders. Insomniac is giving a lot more attention to the artificial intelligence compared to last time with Resistance: Fall of Man. The textures will also be a lot better for an amazing look from far away and from close distance.
If you want to see the screenshots, buy the next GameInformer, or wait till the screenshots are released online. We'll bring you the latest news and media and soon as we have it. Resistance 2 will be released in fall 2008.
UPDATE:
- -The game will feature the standard single-player campaign as well as an eight-player online co-op campaign that's objective-based. Two people can still work together locally.
- -Ready to beat each other senseless online? Resistance 2 will feature 60-player matches set in the United States
- -Sorry, Rachel; the campaign will pick up from Fall of Man's epilogue and stick solely with Nathan Hale as he copes with getting shot down in Iceland, escaping to the states and joining the "Sentinels" program.
- -There will be classes. Characters will start out from one of three basic templates -- a "tank-style" soldier rocking a chain gun, a "Special Ops class" that seems like a sniper or a medic whose "Medicator" gun will hurt enemies and heal allies -- and go from there.
- -When you and a team of friends head into battle, there will not be a selectable difficulty. Insomniac will be auto-scaling the challenge to the skill of you and your squad. When you jump into a random online match, you'll be teamed with partners and opponents who are around your personal level.
- -"Personal" is going to be a big word in Resistance 2. The game will have dedicated servers for gaming, community and stats as well as gamer profile pages on myresistance.net. In-game, the setup will be completely open when it comes to clans and parties -- the era of invites has come to a close.
- -Vehicles are in the game, but Insomniac wouldn't let on about their role.
- -The game's set in the '50s, but expect a more modern U.S. landscape as well as a focus on the aerial side of the Chimeran attack.
- -The game's AI has been overhauled -- they have improved routines and detachable armor pieces -- and boss battles will be more important than ever.

Resistance Fall of Man set the bar for online FPS with lag free 40 player online matches and stunning single player campaign with more on screen action than any competiton from the other system. Now Insomniac WILL raise the bar even higher with 60 player online EIGHT PLAYER COOP online, and now with texture streaming as Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank did. The competition can go home now.

Lets all hope that this doesnt affect the antiscipation for Killzone2 as well. Since both are now thee most antiscipated first person shooters i honestly think it wont affect killzone 2 at all i just think that maybe they should release like not so close to each other but a great distance like if resistance 2 comes out in a summer in some year.
And then like killzone2 would release like during the early spring 1yr after.

Well it appears that Sony's PS3 2008 line up just got an awful lot stronger. I'll be intrigued to read more on this game, look at screen shots etc see it moving maybe. I thought R:FOM online was briliant and I still love it because its so fast paced. Looking at the exclusives coming out this year on PS3 it looks like there are some really compelling reasons to own a PS3:
Home
Killzone 2
Haze
Gran Turismo 5
Metal Gear Solid 4
Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII
God of War III
White Knight Story
LA Noir
and now Resistance 2
That's not taking into account current great exclusives like Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Motor Storm, Warhawk and Eye of Judgement. Crumbs I've even missed off SOCOM, WIpeout and the Agency off the above list. I love my XBOX 360 I really do but I think it'll be gathering dust in 2008!!! I'm really excited about my PS3 now. Can anyone else add to the above lists???

WOW Insomniac have a sh!t load of work to do (2 campains and a huge multiplayer experince) I'm having doubts if the game will be released in 2008 at all, still hope it is. I hope they follow Konami's example and take as much time as needed to complete this game.

And as the presenter rightly said this is another reason for one to own a ps3. Long live Sony long live INSOMNIAC GAMES

I really want Killzone 2 to be a good game. But I have HUGE doubts about it. It's crazy how big the hype is around this game EVEN after the first one sucked so badly. I tried to play it the other day and I have to say that the controls on it are the worst I have ever experienced for a FPS. Resistance looks AWESOME though.

ok this just made my desicion about buying UTIII and Killzone 2 a bit harder and my desicion about buying COD4 alot easier(as in i'm definatley not buying COD4 now), mabye i should get all three, although i never normaly buy more than one of the same type of game. but all of these games are different, can't wait for this.

The first one already set the bar high with 40 players online, now this one will have 60...GADDAMN!! Most definately will be getting this...
@ The Mask ...you are missing out bigtime. COD4 is the best FPS on consoles at this moment. And its gonna be rocking hard until COD6 comes out (infinity ward is not making COD5....plus its gonna be WW2 again, so COD6 is the best one to look forward to)
