U.S. Killzone 2 sales start to cool off

According to data obtained by the NPD Group, Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2 sold 58,000 copies in the U.S. last month, marking the first time since its launch that the game has landed outside the Top 20. The FPS is still performing solidly, though sales have noticeably declined compared to its first two months
The PlayStation 3 exclusive was released on February 27, selling 323,000 units and reaching the No. 5 spot on the February NPD charts. It dropped to the No. 7 spot in March, selling 296,000 units in the U.S.
Following March's figures, Sony announced that the game reached sales of one million worldwide and was the fastest Sony-published title to reach 500,000 units sold. It looks like even killer games aren't immune to the global recession and the drop in console sales.

I think a majority of people are playing COD world at war multiplyer more then Kill Zone2 Multiplayer... it might have something to do with it's popularity and sales. I myself find a play COD alot more...

i think only hardcore gamers like kz2 multiplayer how often do you hear some immature kid talking smack online on kz2 but cod is another story..most people wont give the online a chance because you start out with almost nothing and they complain about the aiming , but i choose kz2 over cod anyday

considering the enormous hype that was created (by PS3 fanboys) it should have sold like 10 million copies, obviously the game isn't DA KILLER TRIPLE A title it was supposed to be and current sales seem rather weak...dunno I was hoping for more, anybody who is saying that KZ2 wasn't at least a bit of a let down is a totally blinded fanboy

It was over hyped alot of people turned out not liking the MP but the single player more. I enjoyed KZ2 enough to get Platinum it in but I don't play it anymore. I could see myself going back and playing the single player again but as for the MP, it didn't have the addiction for me to play EVERYDAY even after completing it. It seemed to me getting all the online trophies I was interested in getting rid of the game after playing than keeping it and playing it until at least Modern Warfare 2 came out witch won't be the case.

The game needed co-op play. I mean really that's all it was missing. If it had co-op play I believe Sony would have saw double the numbers.
Co-op gameplay is the reason why Sony is loosing ground with their exclusives b/c they don't understand that people like to play together, with their friends... As soon as Sony realizes they need to add co-op, their games will see dramatic increases in sales. Mark my words.

You know what? I have KZ2 and I don't play it. Know why? I don't like the setting. I personally don't like non-reality based shooters. I can't get my mind around space men and aliens shooting each other. Sure, it's a huge technical achievement and everything, but I just keep coming back to COD and even a LESSER GAME, SOCOM (true) because I recognize the world that it's in. From now on, I will never buy another Gears of War, Halo, Killzone, or Resistance. All great (and/or popular) games in their own right I'm sure, just not for me. Speaking of Resistance, I bet sales of that popular game suffered for the same reason. NOT TO MENTION THE MARKET IS SATURATED WITH SHOOTERS WHICH CAN'T BE GOOD FOR ANY OF THEM. Hint, hint.

oh boo hoo, there's reasons for poor sales, the most prudent being that it has a M or 18 rating, I have friends who simply cannot purchase the game due to lack of debit card and being under the age of 18.
Other than that people have less disposable income, plus the game feels different to normal FPS games and as a result has put people off it.

well with all of the preordering these days its not surprising that most sales happen in month 1, so im surprised the sales didnt cool off sooner

Doesn't NPD not include Amazon and Wal-Mart or they estimate an amount for those 2 huge stores? It is the next FPS I'm getting, but I agree there too many of those around.

I did my part, the PS3 is still $400 in a global reccession, with its nearest competitor offering a system for half the price.
I love KZ2, and I love my PS3; but it's a shame to see great titles like KZ2 not even move a million units in the US. I blame both SONY's piss-poor marketing and the PS3's price point.

@9 i had no expecations, it looked pretty in the trailer and it looks pretty in game.
and i really like killzone 2, its a solid game and has kept me having fun for months now.
p.s is that master chief in your DP? if your 360 is so great go play it! Why do people who claim to love there console spend so much time on there computers telling people how much they love it? if you like it, go play it, otherwise find something else to do

Sony's first party titles are seriously dissapointing. 5 minutes after playing the demo I knew the game would be a flop.Graphically good, but thats where the good ends. Kinda sad that Halo 3 sold more copies in its first day than this has since being launched back in Febuary. I'm not saying Halo is better, because I think they're both WAY over-rated, but it's still sad never the less.

I'm slowly seeing a trend in stories around this site. They are slowly, but carefully moving to detraciton stories, posing as "objective journalism".
To balance this story, Killzone 2 is and has sold very well across that larger territory called the rest of the world.
Finally @10 - short? Yes, COD4 is short. KZ2 is not.

i'm sure I remember them saying over 1million were pre-orders. Seems that was bull and the game isn't selling as good as they thought.
I still think they have alot more to do to make this game a classic. When MW2 comes out, KZ2 I fear will be dead online.

Erm...all you people saying "what happened to sales?" blah blah blah. Think about it... KZ2 ships, think of just how many people got it first day of release. As of May 8th KZ2 sold approx 1.5 million in US Europe and Japan alone....obviously the sales are going to go down sharply because its peak was near release date.
Apart from maybe post No.1 (Righteous) its not like poeple are going to get another copy just to drive sales. lol
In my eyes, KZ2 will always come before CoDMW due to the lack of smack talkers online, the gameplay doesn't really put me off the game and it looks amazing. If MW2 is rid of its 20 year olds acting like 5 year olds, then im in.
P.S feck martyrdom o.O ,,|, peace...
