Wal-Mart Canada sale hints at 80GB price drop?

Wal-Mart Canada is celebrating its anniversary with a sale no potential PS3 owner should pass up. Instead of paying $659 for a PlayStation 3, the retailer has dropped the price by $110, listing the 80GB bundle for only $559.

As seen in the ad, the 80GB model comes with MotorStorm and a PS3 Blu-ray Remote. According to Dailytech, a quick survey of Wal-Mart stores in west Canada found that most were sold out of the 60GB PS3 and only stocked the 80GB model.

Some believe that this move may be an early look into Sony's plans for an overall price drop. Others say that it's just Wal-Mart forecasting sales, and pricing their products at an appropriate selling point. Fingers crossed Sony will announce an official price drop of this magnitude.

Stay tuned for more updates.

I've founds some news that really suggest that Sony is really making a 40 GB PS3, the news is in danish, but I can show/translate at any time. But this is damn nice too!

By the way, I've found it already in english:

If this is a hint at a PS3 price then they could be hinting at a PSP Slim price drop ($150) and a 360 pricedrop (350) both of which seem very unlikely. Although i beleive there will be a price drop (FCC PS3 model numbers) i dont think this is related to an official sony one...

well im here in canada, but i already own a 60gb. so ill just have to convince all my 360 fanboys to go buy a ps3.

PS: ive changed 3 kids mind already, they all wanted a 360 because of halo 3 but i showed them all the cool ps3 titles coming out soon, like haze, killzone 2, mgs4, LBP, and they were hooked.

I think the 40Gb (if it comes out) will make ps3 sales go off the charts.

    Btw Lp4, good job.

A 40GB PS3 would be a step backward.  A bad move, they wont do it.

As for a price drop, I dont think they should drop it for atleast another year.

Notice all the other text is blurry, but the price is sharp and clear. Could be Photoshop work. Looks suspicious. I believe Sony will drop the price though regardless.

"Instead of paying $659 for a playstation 3, the retailer has dropped the price by $110, listing the 80GB bundle for only $559."   In the picture it says $549!

The guy who wrote this article titled the pricing wrong thats all ALI, 660 subtract 110 is actually 550. N E ways sony really needs to do something and not just on the gaming side of the PS3 but also the entertainment side. Like Lp47, I too have convinced 7 friends and adults to get a PS3 when there heart was set on a Xbox360, but when i showed them not just the games but also the extra things the PS3 can do they were hooked as well especially when they saw the movie 300 in Blu-ray format  AWESOME.

It be nice if I was in Canada lol. Any who yes if Sony were drop the official price it would be a lot earlier then what they were hinting to earlier on. Heck just wait till Christmas rolls by, I am sure Sony has something in their sleeves to possibly steal the limelight. :)
