2K Games details BioShock PS3 patch While nothing is official just yet, many people are already beginning to write off HD DVD and declare Blu-ray the winner. To help support that fact, Stephen Pope, Chief Global Market Strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald Europe, got a chance recently to sit down with CNN to discuss the current state of the Blu-ray vs HD DVD war.
Pope started out by revealing that Walmart will soon only carry Blu-ray players in their stores, “Walmart said physically in our stores, we’re only going to sell Blu-ray players. You can get the high definition player [HD DVD] if you shop online with Walmart, but if it’s in the store, just Blu-ray.”
Later he was asked if it was just because of the recent Blu-ray success, and if it really meant that it is the better system? Pope responded with, “I think it probably is this time around, in Sony’s favor. The sales have come through with the PS3 which has a Blu-ray player and that has really taken off because they’ve made a smaller capacity model which is more price affordable”
As for how this will effect Sony from a financial standpoint, he commented, “I think you’ll start to see now that the money will begin to roll in towards Sony because people have now seen that there is a definitive decision….the balance has heavily tipped towards Sony favor.”
He was then asked what would Toshiba do now, he had this to say, “I think what you’ll eventually see is that Toshiba will have to realize that as good as the technology is, it is, is not going to be the winner this time around, and they’re going to have to shelve it and eat humble pie and probably under franchise manufacture their own version of blu-ray players.”
Stephen Pope also said that the Blu-ray market will eventually become a 20 billion dollar market, almost triple the value of DVD.

Good, this is just another statement meaning Blu-ray has finally won the war.
Sucks for people that dont have blu ray players
I think he's understating the whole mess. This format war is a slaughter house, and as much as I feel for Toshiba, M$ can eat their own sht for all I care.
Nice now if they were to only sell blu ray moves that be da sh**
psn id J08hawks
Good business for all and they know where the money is at!
Now
"SHOW ME THE MONEY"
hahahaha i love it!
Well since Walmart is a major retailer this makes a huge impact against HD-DVD.
This war needs to end soon...
The war is already over.
its definitely over but on a side note, i did just buy a hd/dvd player for $30 from this guy who was going to buy a blu-ray player. for $30, its still worth it
shelf space is key here...by supporting both, they waste space..
blu-ray won 2008. now ps3 has to do the same..
this war ended on nov 17 2006 we all knew this
Keep it coming! 8D
its funny how LOTS of people thought bluray would come n go very quickly..
20 billion dollar market that Sony's in control of, tat surely means a subsided PS4 when the time comes.
Now we just need this to spread world-market-wide!!!
Blu-Ray is the winner no doubt about that! Haven't heard from the HD-DVD camp since the Warner announcement to go Blu-Ray exclusively.
Don't underestimate this news. Walmart, where virtually everyone in America shops at; is going from having cheap hd-dud players in the stores to dropping the hd-dud format in the stores completely. This will really help speed up the end.
psn id: gingo... the real reason HD DVD failed was because microsoft didn't put an HD DVD player in every xbox whereas sony put a blu ray player in every ps3 and that is the main factor that won this 'war'
Couldn't have said it better Gingo. The fact of the matter is, HD DVD would be competing neck and neck if M$ had done that. To bad, so sad.... M$ should take notice of Toshiba's downfall, their crashbox is next.
Toshiba cut there player's 50-60%. Wal-Mart likes to sell cheaper stuff....We see what happens..
Good, good, good!
Eat a little bit o' that humble pie sounds about right... LOL
I'm pretty sure most of the pear-shaped people that shop at Walmart could care less about Blu-ray. Nice to know another store is tipping in Blu-rays favor, but I see many more people climbing in the $10 DVD box than over Blu-ray.
GO SONY!!!
BALLIN'
Triple the value of DVD, if that happen, Sony hit the jackpot
dang if walmart stars this trend soon other stores like circuitcity..bestbuy...ect...will follow then it'll reli be teh end for hd dvd :P
Hope it becomes reality. That means more shelf space for the format that I like. Bluray for the world.
Universal Studios executive vice president and co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group Ken Graffeo has said that despite rampant rumors the struggling format is here to stay. He did however leave the door open for putting an end to the format war if Blu-ray is willing to make an agreement
