After Unreal Tournament III set the mark for incorporating the keyboard & mouse setup on the PS3, one company is hoping to allow gamers to have this setup as a permanent fixture for any game of their choice.
XCM, the company behind this new peripheral, has announced the release of the XFPS Rateup Adapter for the PS3. This adapter will allow PS3 owners to use a keyboard and mouse instead of the Sixaxis controller to play their games. The peripheral is region free as it will work on all PlayStation 3 models and is compatible with all PlayStation 3 games.
The adapter will also allow the controller's button configuration to be remapped to the user's choice. Seeing as how the adapter is compatible with 95% of different kinds of mouse and keyboards, this especially beneficial for the PC gamer making the transition to the console world. PC gamers will now be able to enjoy "high sensitivity, precision and smoothness" from a platform that was once frowned upon by those same PC gamers.
The only thing of particular concern would be that some games have Sixaxis functionality so it may pose some bit of trouble mapping that same functionality to the mouse/keyboard. No official price or release date has been announced, but stay tuned for any new bit of information that may be coming out about this new peripheral.

that sucks. sure it's beneficial for those people who love using mouse and keyboard. i love using the mouse and keyboard. but the best mouse and keyboard players on say... FPS games, are better than those who play with a controller. this just gives a huge advantage to those using mouse and keyboard.

I guess I am the only guy on earth that thinks a mouse/KB sucks for gaming. I would take a Sixaxis or any other console controller over the cramping and digital clumsiness of a keyboard. I do far better with a pad on UT3 than I do with a KB/M so maybe I just suck at it, but I am at least willing to admit that unlike the legions of PC gamers that say pads suck just because they are total n00bs with them.

Hey Soviet, your not the only one left, I too prefer the sixaxis on fps, and just about every other type of game, only times I need mouse and keyboard are for RTS and MMORPG's and that's really only necessary for the typing functions.

Hope games recognize this is KB/M combo otherwise it's gonna suck for those console gamers in FPSs.

this could be good, but the thing i don't get is why do we need "xfps" to use kb+mouse to play our fps, we have usb ports and bluetooth, it's the game developpers job to ensure his game uses all the potential of the console, not being able to play fps games like ut3 with kb+mouse is a bit like not being able to play driving simulation games like gt5 with a steering wheel, especially with the g25 on the market, so developpers, "wake up and see what you can do with the ps3 to make your games better so they sell better"

Didn't know that about UT3. Now I might be buying that game.
More PS3 devs should incorporate Mouse & Keyboard support in there games whenever possible.

I too prefer the PS controller. I play PC and PS3 FPS and although I prefer the precision aiming of a mouse nothing can beat the manouvrability of a controller, I can circle straff all day without running out of desk!!! However I do think that Kb & M will always beat a controller (unfortunately).

I can personally garantee. That I can beat someone using a PS controller when they are using a kb and mouse. Just because someone is using a kb and mouse doesn't make them automatically better than someone using a controller. Who ever wins is going to be decided by the player. And not by a keyboard and mouse or controller.

this sucks man.i m good at playing with my Sixaxis (im good at keyboard and mouse too.) but sixaxis is special thing for ps3 man when u play with keyboard and mouse: its like you re playing with computer. there r lots of ppl that cant play with sixaxis and when this adapter comes they r going to have an advantage.
