Xbox 360 leads PS3 by a million total in 5 EU territories

According to Chart Track data seen but not sourced by Eurogamer, the Xbox 360 currently has a combined installed base lead of one million units over PlayStation 3 in five crucial European territories – the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Sony has apparently declined to comment on the figures.

Chart Track’s report shows like-for-like sales of console hardware across October and November. It indicates that the PS3 was closing the gap on Xbox 360 earlier in the year despite the latter’s one year market headstart. Microsoft’s timely September price cut turned the tables, however, and the American giant "can be confident of holding its lead into the New Year."

At a half to two-thirds of the RRP of its great rival, Xbox 360 is certainly proving attractive to cash-strapped consumers faced with worsening market conditions. An ever-increasing line-up of killer exclusives notwithstanding, Sony could do with taking the sting out of PS3’s price tag.
