Rumor: PSN trophy screenshot

It seems as though last weeks announcement of the soon to be released firmware version 2.40 has sent the internet ablaze with speculation as to when it would be going live. From a recent posting on the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel revealed that the new firmware would provide in-game access to the PS3's "Xross Media Bar," PSN Trophies, and some new features that have yet to be announced.
Many have wondered what format these PSN Trophies would be presented in and it seems that the internet has found a way to leak out a screenshot of a PSN trophy card. Coming from an insider tip from a contributor known as "The Patriots" over at PS3Fanboy, this person revealed the first indications of what PS3 owners could possibly expect upon release of Firmware version 2.40.
The screenshot shows the user's avatar in the upper left hand corner of the Trophy Card with a breakdown of the user's trophy collection. The collection is broken down into four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, however details are a bit hazy on what merits each. The Trophy Card also seems to have 3 pages (the two pages featured below are unofficially labeled "gamercard" and "compare"), which appear to be able to be cycled through with the L1 and R1 buttons, but again, no formal indications are given to their specific functionality.

The picture below shows that your Trophy Card will feature a trophy total and a "level." Another Sony insider, "Gassy Snake," explains that each trophy type will be worth a different number of points. He divulged that there is a certain number of each type of trophy available for a given game. In order to progress through levels, he claims you will need to gain a certain number of trophy points and as you increase in trophy levels, this number will increase as well thus increasing the level of difficulty to reach the status of elite (or possibly Platinum).

"Gassy Snake" also reveals that the In-Game XMB will allow gamers to perform tasks such as background music playing, messaging and bluetooth headset pairing. Gassy claims that whenever a feature is not supported by the in-game version of the XMB, the PS3's interface will prompt you to exit out of the current game in order to access such feature(s). The In-Game XMB will be available to PS3 users by tapping the PlayStation button once on their controllers (holding the button down will bring up the menu PS3 owners have been used to pre-2.40)
As it stands, this is only a rumor, but could the potential PSN Maintenance scheduled for tommorrow be an indication that firmware version 2.40 is around the corner? Sony's Noel Silvia has already indicated that Firmware version 2.40 is in its final stages before release, leaving most PS3 owners anxiously waiting for the moment this new firmware goes live. Check back with PSU to get the latest updates on the 2.40 "madness."

This could really be one amazing update... but im not going to set my sights on it showing up any time this week. I sure cant wait though. Ive always wanted to see what Resistance would be like with crazy METAL!!!
Also, im wondering if your old save game data could get you trophies, or do you have to do it alllllll over again. (that would suck)

this sounds sweet hopefully it is true, i wonder what the points will be used for, i think it would be awesome if we could use points we earn to buy stuff in home instead of real money.

I've already been in long discussion of this, so I'll bring up another related topic: I wonder what the "features that are yet to be announced" are. What could they possibly be? Only time (or an insider) will tell.

This could possibly be the coolest thing ever done by Sony. Achievements to me have always felt like a chore to aquire. Atleast this seems fun and challenging too. Now is the time to be a PS3 fanboy. Up next: Home!

Really guys, don't get your hopes up.
This is the reason why you all feel Sony is late and takes too long to deliver. If I were you, I wouldn't think of 2.4 until mid July or so. I do love rumors and speculation, but seriously, I guarantee that tomorrow will come and go with no 2.4 update, and I wouldn't be disappointed if it's not out until at least next week.
All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up.

@seba501- Y don't u go buy a crapbox360 then, if you don't THINK this is good enough for ya! Nobody put a gun to your fat head, and made you buy a PS3! Stop being so negative about it. Sony had there reasons for delay. PS3 wasn't built in one day ya know! PSN ID-Demented007.

I hope these screenshots are real. Those cards look pretty good. Sleek but simple. The different level trophies already look to give this system a lot more depth than the Achievements system. Cant wait for this, Im truly excited for this. XBL's advantages are quickly being thinned out and out-gunned. Hey, our console might not be selling as good, but we can easily tell who will have the better console in a year or 2.

@Girugamesh: I wouldn't be as down as that about it..certainly it won't be coming out today but I don't think they'll be waiting to mid-July to release it !! Saying Sylvia already said that eirc was finishing off the walkthrough video which can only be made during the final stages of the firmware !! and once this thing is finished I can't see them holding it for very longEDIT: Also if those are the gamercards I hope that:A) They have a mini version viewable on the XMBandB) They start to allow custom avatars for our PSN IDs to vary the cards a bit more..these of course I can wait a few more updates for -

The article at PS3fanboy never mentioned that "Gassy Snake" specifically said in-game XMB background music. That was something the PSU editor decided to put in on his own.
"Also, with regards to in-game XMB, we've been told that "you can do most things" in-game, including comparing trophies. Some things will require you to leave the game, however." - ps3fanboy.com

I'm glad it's finally close, at least I hope so, but I still don't understand why it's taken Sony sooo long to get this done. I mean the 360 has had these features since release, so Sony has had over 2 1/2 years now to catch up and add them. Home better be amazing.

@ ryanthegreat:
Don't worry, after Microsoft sees (and admits - haha) that the PSN is every bit as good as Xbox Live they'll surely drop the price of admission for you. You don't have much to be angry about much longer - I mean, they're even recognizing gay marriages in California - just for you!

@Dave-The-Rave
You're right, it shouldn't be too much longer, but let me say it in a different way - I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come until mid July.
It will probably be out in the next week and a half or so, though, who knows.
@Ryanthegreat57
Awww, poor thing. Must be extremely angry over the recent massive success that is MGS4 and the fact that now PSN will be greater than XBL.

@davidthegreat57: then why are all of microsofts publishers defecting and are being either bought up by other companies or simply just leaving micronuts? eg: the guys who make halo quit microsoft exclusivity (bungie), the guys who make gears of war defected and got bought by ea (along with pandemic) and its making gearsow 3 and mass effect for ps3 also.....just to name a couple.....this is the end of your xbox!!!muah muah muah muah

Ryan, rejection is a hard thing to swallow (haha), and I know it can make you angry, especially in light of your realization that your favored console is becoming increasingly irrelevant every day, but just go grab a bucket of KFC and call Valve Software, where all your dreams can come true.

Check this out everybody! If you've seen the test of "in-game xmb" with Bioshock running in the background. well if you actually pay attention when the guy clicks on the trophy it actually is a "PLATINUM TROPHY." I don't know about you but this might actually be fact not fiction!

Who knows when this 2.4 update is coming out. No one, but one thing is certain playstation blog said they would post the info before anyone giving the deets. So I can say it won't be today. Just check over there once in a while that isyour best bet to finding out the fastest way. But it so funny to see everyone go crazy over it. I hope it comes soon also, but i am with Sylvia in saying don't give your hopes up. Be patient even if it is a month, to me that is close and just around the corner.
