UMD movie sales top 100,000

Sony recently announced that sales of UMD movies have topped 100,000 units - which has made Sony and movie studios very happy about the format. Lions Gate Home Entertainment, Miramax, 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures and Sony have dozens (and dozens!) of movies on schedule to be released all throughout the year, and there is no sign of letting up.

Movie studios were originally cautious about the UMD movie format, and rightfully so. Would consumers warm up to a new portable propriety format? With the brisk sales of most of the available UMD movies to date, Sony has convinced Hollywood that the PSP is the next big thing to happen to movies.

If you are planning on picking up some upcoming movies, here is a list of titles being released between now and July. You should be able to find them wherever PSP games are sold.

Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid (6/27)
You Got Served (6/27)
Appleseed (7/4)
Dodgeball (7/4)
I Robot (7/4)
Napoleon Dynamite (7/4)
Predator (7/4)
Super Troopers (7/4)
Air Force One (7/18)
Resident Evil (7/18)
