During the DKS3713 event yesterday, Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama revealed that the US and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be held back on the PlayStation 3 due to development of the Xbox 360 version.
In a behind the scenes video produced by Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura, Toriyama reconfirmed the development plans for Final Fantasy XIII.
"We haven't changed the direction of the development," said Toriyama. "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."
With the PS3 version complete and hitting Japan in 2009, PS3 gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until the Xbox 360 port is done. According to Nomura, his team didn't receive Xbox 360 development kits until a few days ago, so depending on how long it takes the Square Enix team to port the title, the U.S. and Europe may not receive Final Fantasy XIII until 2010.
As his final comment, Noruma stated that the PS3 version will not suffer due to the Xbox 360 development.
"We aren't going to change any specifications because of the multi-platform announcement," he said. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

not a big fan of final fantasy but, that is very upsetting that a once exclusive game for the ps3 now has to be held back because of Squares' greed to port it to the 360. This is one of the worst decisions that could ever be made!

wow....thats honestly all I can say is wow. First , they break exclusivitivity with PS3 and make it multi-plat. Then they promise a shocking announcement and its just a demo! THEN they push back the ps3 release just to accomodate the xbox 360 and to release it at the same time on a console that wasn't suppose to have it in the first place!

That's somewhat enough. I'm not going to wait 2-3 years for some game. Especially when it's going to be held back just because of xbox360.
square-enix has really lost it, but well it's most likely microsoft paying them load of money and it won't even help them. I'm pretty sure that all the FF fans will be getting ps3 since then you also get ffxiii versus.
EDIT: That makes me wonder if ffxiii versus will hit the stores before ffxiii. -

Don’t blame SE blame M$ that are like Disease spreading an infecting everyone that seduce people with money and it’s very hard to say no to big amount of money when they are offered its just that M$ or AIDS of gaming world that describes them better are giving people big amount of money and human nature always works first for himself so they agree to make their game bad but get more money or make Ps3 version look like **** and get more money so blame AIDSSOFT selling low level products to us and covering it all up with money.

Ok....soo..I'll admit, I'm ppleased about the titles going to the PSP, and yeah, I'm happy about there being a demo...but really, I'm sorry, but thse people have a VERY warped view on whats considered 'shocking'. I'm picking up both FF13 and FFvs13 and the announcements have cemented my decision to buy a psp, but next time, they must look in a fricken dictionary before going on about a 'shocking' announcement.

Considering they need to do voiceover and translation. Here is hoping the porting takes less time. I can't say I feel a supportive attraction to SE games any more. I have great respect for Kojima and Nomura but other than that, I think everyone else is in it for money more than the passion of milking a single system for all its worth.
