The BBC has confirmed that the company currently working on a PlayStation 3 version of its popular iPlayer service.

"We're... working on bringing BBC iPlayer to Sony PS3, but we're not quite there yet as the PS3 uses a slightly older version of Flash which doesn't support some of the features used in our media player, and the very promising Flash 9 update now available on PS3 has some compatibility issues," said Anthony Rose, head of Online Media Group for BBC Future & Media Technology.

"Our Flash developers are working on it - stay tuned for updates."

For those out of the loop, iPlayer works as a streaming service allowing users to catch up on the latest BBC TV and Radio shows from the past seven days, and is already compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, Nintendo Wii and iPhone.

Hmmm, ok, but i my girlfriend uses my PS3 to watch the IPlayer and before we got the V2.50 update the website looked nice while playing vids, once update V2.50 came and and Flash 9 was installed, IPlayer looked sweeter and crisper and clearer, what are they going to do tto make it better ?

I guess this has absolutey no bearing on the U.S. as the BBC really doesn't apply to us....but sounds good I guess...although I will say that CRAIG DAVID rocks out...hehe

I noticed it says on the bbc iplayer site that PS3 version is in "developement"

Cannot wait for this to launch it will be great, much easier than using PC to watch the episodes.  I know ther is ps3iplayer.com but that doesnt seem to be working for me atm.

And yes it will not be available in the US because you do not pay the TV licence fee :)
