Sony’s senior vice president of marketing for PlayStation, Peter Dille, has launched a series of disparaging comments towards competing online strategies, criticising the firm’s rivals for recycling outdated content, as opposed to the PlayStation Network, which offers a true next-generation gaming experience.
Speaking exclusively with website Gamasutra, Dille stressed the importance of the company’s online strategy for PlayStation 3, stating, "We're attacking online very, very aggressively", before addressing its competitors efforts, adding, "...whereas our competition takes a bunch of old content and catalogs content from previous generations and offers that in a download fashion, our development organization are making games specifically for PS3. When you download them, they're in 1080p, and they're showing off what's going on with Cell and the PlayStation 3 technology."
Dille then turned his attention the firm’s struggling UMD format (which accommodates PlayStation Portable and film content), attributing poor sales to that of “miscommunication” with Hollywood movie studios at the systems launch. He also commented on the upcoming slimline PlayStation Portable, stating, "This new design addresses the load times to a certain degree. The internal memory has been improved, so the load times are improved."
The slimline PSP is due out in North America this September, though an exact date has yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more coverage as it breaks.

Nintendo has no room to talk. Yea, their little Wii is selling now, but soon no one is gonna wanna play last-gen games when Lair, Heavenly Sword, Unreal, and some of the 360 games come out.

The key for Sony online is to focus more on the backwards compatibility of PS3s without the chip. That compatibility should be at 100% before they concern themselves with not only new online experiences, but lowering theirselves to the level of competitors and spending more time attacking their online. Take care of the BC first. Then, take care of the 1080p games of the world and such.

I think you are wrong Psydistix, if you have older games you most likely have your old console which you can use to play. I honestly don't see people playing old games too often, however, if PS3 release 1080p games you have more motivation to replay an older title such as Street Fighter :)
