Next PS3 price cut for GTA IV?

One of the premier gaming industry analysts, Michael Pachter, went on record today about the possibility of future price cuts. He feels that there will not be another PlayStation 3 price drop until early 2008, strategically placed before the release of GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4.
However, Pachter does feel a PS2 price cut will be announce prior to Christmas. In a note to his Wedbush Morgan investors he stated, “Any hardware price reduction could serve as a catalyst for sales growth later in the year,” possibly outlining Sony’s business plan or outlook for the coming fiscal year.
We all know that the PS2 isn’t going anywhere and with the growth of publisher support in 2007, investor fears could dwindle. In a closing comment he wrote:
"Should industry sales continue to be strong, we think that investors concerns about a secular shift away from video games will subside, and we expect the US publisher stocks to continue to appreciate… It may take until after the holidays when concerns about the 'stalled' cycle are fully alleviated, and we expect volatility for video game stocks through the year, though with an upward bias.”
So it looks like a PS2 price cut in 2007 and possibly a new SKU or price cut for the PS3 come first quarter of 2008, according to the analyst who correctly predicted the GTA IV delay. Coupled with the added support of developers, 2008 could be exactly what gaming fans have been wanting.

It could be a good price cut, but I dont see it being any more significant than 150 dollars, if even that. But it will definitley put some buyers on the map for MGS4, and GTAIV.

I doubt it would be a price cut, maybe just another cycle where a new SKU shuffles the older one out with a bigger HDD. I figured a PS2 cut would be coming regardless. $99 sweet spot.

If their smart they will do it.... with new in game xmb features comming up i no longer have any doubts about which system is worth it... br disc would have won me over anyway in the end but.... know they will only get better in time since sony seems to be really lisening to consumers which is a wise choice since they control the industry really.... if we all got together and did all the same thing like the right thing.... like not going to walmart.... except for you feel no shame then go on in.... anyway....PEACE....

I'd say some sort of package deal or something will hit for the PS3 right before the holidays so they can avoid a price drop. PS2 I concur will probably see a price cut and like others said, the $99 sweet spot more than likely. I don't see the PS3 dropping much in price rather then Sony continually releasing a different sku, lowering the previous price and phasing it out as they are doing with the 60gb to the 80gb. Time will tell.

No, the guy's an idiot. Sony just finished saying how GTA4 is not super important for them. It's ot going to break them they said so WHY would they drop the price of the system for the release of a game that they're not really too concerned about??? YOU FAIL PACHTER.

i think a price cut would be good. But then again even tho the 80 gig now is the old 60 pirce but you get better value for that of having a 60 doller game in with it. I dont think its very smart to discontinue the 60 gig version tho because that has risen ps3 sales up to the moon. Having the 60 and the 80 out i think only strengthens their plan.

I hope da price cut continues "Down Under" so that it will become a little more affordable and increase owners down here and beat Microsoft! A price cut on the software would also make significant differences in my wallet!!
