As Sony’s PlayStation 3 60GB model begins to phase out at current retailers, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has forecast that the 80GB version will be reduced from USD 599 – 499 by the Christmas holiday season.
"We note that Sony recently acknowledged that it will no longer produce its 60GB PS3," said Pachter, "and we expect the price of the 80Gb PS3 to be reduced to $499 before the holidays, maintaining a premium SKU at that price point."
Pachter believes the drop of the 80GB model will further increase growth later in the fiscal year, also predicting a second price cut following the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and the PS3-exclusive title, Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots in 2008.

Give the man a prize for stating the obvious except the price will include a pack in (heavenly sword) and some movies. The price will drop further in 2008 due to a 120GB model at the tail end of Christmas and all models will include a rumble controller. 2008 will see a flame red MGS 4 Limited Edition world release and a Gun Metal Grey MGS4 "Beauty & the Beast" Limited edition for Japan only. 2008 will also see the start of the ceramic white (Jap only) and platinum (US & EU) PS3's as ongoing choices of colors.

Well duh! You'd be silly not to think one was coming before Christmas. I wonder how much this guy gets paid. Maybe I can get a job with him.
