Six out of eight major Hollywood studios currently back Blu-ray, and now a majority of European independent film distributors are also supporting the high definition format by launching many of their titles this autumn.

More than 15 companies are showing their support for Blu-ray such as Tartan Video, and Eagle Rock Entertainment.

“The growth of the Blu-ray Disc format in Europe is quite phenomenal – 2007 is proving an extremely successful year and the format is exceeding even the most optimistic market forecasts,” said David Walstra, vice chairman of the BDA European Promotions Committee.

In addition to the unbelievable support, Walstra commented, “The response of the independent distributors is a clear indication of the attraction of the Blu-ray platform to these commercially driven organizations.”
