According to Kotaku, SNK has confirmed King of Fighters XII for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The last installment of King of Fighters (XI) hit Japan on June 22, 2006 and has yet to be released in the US. What's unique about King of Fighters is that it mixes 2D shading on 3D characters and environments giving it a different art style compared to other games in genre.
SNK's Overseas Marketing Manager Yoshihito Koyama stated that they plan to release the arcade version in Japan in late 2009 and then follow it up with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions in 2009 to 2010.
Stay tuned for more information.

When will he Japanese Devs come to their senses? Releasing Japanese style games in Japan for the 360 as well. RPG's don't sell to well on 360 and there is no 360 owners in Japan. Once they see PS3 sales increse over time in Japan, next-gen Japanese oriented games will only be released on PS3. Take RE5, why release a 360 version in Japan?
360 popular in US but thanks to Euro and Japan the PS3 wil soon surpass 360 in world-wide sales, encouraging more devs to make games on Sony's machine, last-gen they made exclusives on the PS2 the least powerful machine, the PS3 this time is the most powerful so that'll be a bonus for Devs when they come to PS3. And all that will help sales in the US, and don't forget by this time blu-ray would have won.

FU(K YEAH!!!!........this is the best news for me regarding the PS3 thus far. I don't care that is not gonna be out for another 2 years ....I love you SNK playmore. Now all ya'll have to do is put some solid 2d fighters on PSN with online play... KOF 98, SS5 and Garou: MotW would be a perfect start ;)

Umm okay? You can get KOFXI imported and I believe it was released for the PS2 in the states already (along with ggx accent core). Any way thats a bit of a stretch for 2009-2010 mark. What the question is whether more fighting games will be online considering most of the classics like SF: 3 strike, Alpha series, Turbo have yet to be on PSN with online capabilities.
