No cross platform multiplayer for UT3

Unreal Tournament 3, the sequel to PC shooter favourite, will not have connectivity between PC and PS3.
Mark Rein, VP of Epic games, confirmed that, initially, their will be no cross platform multiplayer. The reason? According to Mr Rein; “The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is [synchronizing] the builds such that the build on the PC is 100% compatible with the build on the PS3”.
This is due somewhat to the 'certification' process when making something for a console, i.e., Sony would have to sign off on any patches and updates etc, where as on the PC, the patches don't have as many checks.
“[This] would not be in the best interests of our very loyal PC user base, because we would constantly be holding on to updates to wait until they passed cert on the console platform” said Mr Rein.
Apparently though, when the game has 'settled down', i.e., post-release issues being fixed, Epic may consider cross platform play, although according to Mr Rein, “even then the likelihood is small”. If it was to happen, make sure you have a keyboard and mouse for your PS3, you might get pwnd otherwise.
Stay tuned.

@gingo. I beg to differ. I happen to be much better with a controller then I ever was with a keyboard and mouse.

no matter what its simple controler physics the mouse has more and faster range of motion no matter if your the best person with the controler. the best person with a mouse is going to win every time. mouse moves twice as quick.. still would be nice though but there would be way to much biittching with patches.

The key word is "initially". Just because it doesn't start with it, that doesn't mean it won't. I mean, we're a lot closer to it than cross-platforming with the 360

You must not have a very good grasp on physics, you can use your thumbs to create the same amount of motion on screen as you can with your wrists. The reason you believe that it is impossible is two fold, you haven't seen anyone who can use a controller really well, and secondly, you've probably never played a FPS with a controller at an incredibly high sensitivity. I was waiting for this game to come out to pwn K$M users with a controller to show them that it is not superior just because it has been in use for so long.

yeah me too, I think it's good not having cross plateform.
I don't want to HAVE to play with K&M to have a chance to keep up with PC player. If I want "PC Gaming", I play on PC. I want "Console gaming", that is, big screen, Home theater, gamepad in hand, confortable, and WHooo Hoo.
my opinion

this is fine with me. Keyboard+mouse users would pwn a controller user any day. they can turn almost instantly and aiming is much easier. the mouse isnt "twice as quick" its as quick as you wanna make it, more like 10 times as quick. if u were to put the mouse sensitivity to max and move the mouse from one side of your mouse pad to the other, youd do almost 20 turns lol. yeah... dont wanna play against PC users unless PS3 version would have Keyboard and mouse support. However, if the PC version didnt have Keyboard and mouse support and made you have to use a seperate controller.... thats not gonna happen lol

i agree with The Master. you can adjust your sensitivity for console FPS games. i don't like having it be as sensitve as a mouse. i lose control to easily and when i guy pops up i rush to fast to get over to him and i go a couple feet past him.
what they are implying about the keyboard and mouse is that it would be troublesome for gamers to have to buy a usb mouse and a usb keyboard. but it would actually be troublesome to PC gamers as well. they have to buy(along with all the other major expensive neccesities related to PC gaming) is a good mouse that uses the laser instead of the ball. i couldn't Pwn sh_t with the mouse i have. i'd constantly have to roll it to the side really fast because if you move it slowly the ball won't move.

Reality is; this is one of those games that is always going to be best on PC. I own all Unreal & Unreal Tournament games and the amount of maps & mods that I have built up is enormous .Out of curiosity I purchased Unreal Tourney on DC and PS2 (as I also did Quake 3) but they are seriously lacking in comparison.

I'd pwn anyone in this upcoming title using a Keyboard and Mouse if the cross platform play was going. Don't think it'd give someone THAT big of an advantage. Not everyone is a master with the keyboard.
