US retailer Target is listing the much-rumoured 40GB PlayStation 3 on its inventory database, pointing towards a release date for the new model at the end of October.
According to reports from Engadget, the 40GB PS3 is listed down for release on October 28, putting it slightly ahead of its rumoured unveiling on November 2. As predicted, the machine is expected to sell for USD 399.99.
The 40GB SKU was released in European territories last Wednesday. It does, however, exclude a number of features present in other models, featuring only two USB ports, and dismissing PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility and multi-memory card slots.
Stay tuned for more developments here at PSU as they break.

We'll probably see a couple more retailer's ads leaking this soon. I wonder if companies like Sony & Microsoft allow this on purpose to ramp up the hype?

They'll wait another week or so because if they announce it now, nobody will buy a ps3 until the price drop. They want to clear out 60GB inventory yet.
Anyhow, I know 2 people that I know are getting a 40GB...not on release day, but before Christmas. Hopefully it does launch Oct. 28...the sooner the better.

Sony is getting ready to rock this holiday season... Sony will win, Wii can not get up to demands, and XBox is near the end of its life, PSHome will rock and i bet they will have bundles with Blu-Ray and Games, Blu-Ray remote and controllers, and who knows what else.

Hopefully this will help the PS3 gain momentum in the US where the 360 is most prominent. IF sony can take back the US territory, then MS is doomed.

This would be the DUMBEST move on Sony's part to release a NEW CHEAPER SKU before completing their planned phase out of the 60gb model.Just drop the 60gb to $349.And the 80gb bundle to $424.99
