Sony digital and animation studios to be sold off?

According to a report published in the New York Times, Sony Pictures Entertainment is considering the possibility of selling 50 per cent of its digital and animation divisions, in a move that could generate an estimated USD 500 million.

Investors believe that both Sony Pictures Animation (Surf’s Up, Open Seasons) and Sony Pictures Imageworks (Spider-Man, Stuart Little) could expand into other avenues, such as the production of television and videogame advertisement.

Sony is expected to want only a single investor for both companies due to their close nature, with investors Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin currently in the process of accessing the value of such a deal.
