PS3 narrows Wii's lead in Japan

Sony Corp’s PlayStation 3 console has continued to narrow the gap between itself and the Nintendo Wii in Japan, with the sell out ratio for both machines dropping from 6:1 to just 2:1 between June and October, respectively.
Nintendo sold through 110,415 Wii units in the four weeks ended October 28, with PS3 selling 47,183 units during the same period.
The increase in sales is most likely due to the introduction of a new price cut Sony employed last month, with the Japanese hardware manufacturer lowering the price of both its 20GB and 60GB machines by 5,000 and 54,980 yen each, respectively.
The 40GB PS3 will debut in the region on November 11, priced 39,980 yen.

Soon enough the PS3 will overthrough the wii. It may take some time but it will happen. At least worldwide

Hopefully these sales arent just due to the Wii being in almost everybody's hands, thus no need to buy anymore of them. Never the less, the PS3 seems to be finally gaining steam towards this holiday through some great games coming out that I cant wait to pick up!! :)

haha the gap between them still rises as the Wii outsells the PS3 no matter how small the ratio. The PS3 needs to start outselling the Wii for the gap to get smaller.

Yea this article is a hugely misguided. The rate of sales are getting closer but the wii gap in the market is still huge. Although I know we will out sell the wii in the long run do to the fact that the ps3 is a long term investment and the wii is like a short term thing more people will switch off the wii and 360 and come to the ps3 when their systems become obsolete.

Slow and steady wins the race... Isn't that how the saying goes?

I really don't think the PS3 and Wii will reach a close unit sale figure, it should be a good 15,000-20,000 sales difference or more. If all goes well by the start of Q2 2008, PS3 sales will spike up so high worldwide (unless Nintendon releases an awesome game for Wii, I hope not!) and even more so once we see the end of HD-DVD! And the biggest leap of all will come from one game...FFXIII (in Japan anyways[1st]). The world will 'synergise' and PS3 won't be looking back! Even if another Halo game is released...results won't be as close as the last game! Here we come...

The wii isn't even considered next gen. The real war is between M$ and Sony, and M$ certainly isn't putting up much of a fight.
In the end though, the PS3 is still expected to outsell the Wii in software, possibly hardware, but most definately software. (By many analysts.)
