Japanese PS3 sales surpass the Wii in November

The PlayStation 3 has outsold Nintendo’s Wii console in Japan for the month of November, according to the latest hardware figures from Famitsu publisher, Enterbrain.

Calmative PS3 sales during the four weeks ended November 25 reached 183,217 units, beating out the Wii, which sold a total of 159,193 units during the same period. PS3 had previously enjoyed strong sales in the region for the past fortnight, outselling Nintendo’s machine by around 20,000 units.

The spike in sales has largely been attributed to the availability of the cheaper 40GB model, in addition to the continued shortages currently plaguing the Wii.

"It’s nice to see the system selling much better than six months ago. But is it a sustainable trend? Is it going to really escalate from here? I’m not so sure”, commented KBC Securities analyst, Hiroshi Kamide.
