Japanese PS3 sales surpass the Wii in November

The PlayStation 3 has outsold Nintendo’s Wii console in Japan for the month of November, according to the latest hardware figures from Famitsu publisher, Enterbrain.

Calmative PS3 sales during the four weeks ended November 25 reached 183,217 units, beating out the Wii, which sold a total of 159,193 units during the same period. PS3 had previously enjoyed strong sales in the region for the past fortnight, outselling Nintendo’s machine by around 20,000 units.

The spike in sales has largely been attributed to the availability of the cheaper 40GB model, in addition to the continued shortages currently plaguing the Wii.

"It's nice to see the system selling much better than six months ago. But is it a sustainable trend? Is it going to really escalate from here? I'm not so sure”, commented KBC Securities analyst, Hiroshi Kamide.

I really hope Sony continues this lead, and it is also strange that by the amount of money Ninty is making,it shouldn't be a problem to increase production numbers.

How old are you roh_sik i do care about sales really although it's better for the company, but in genral i just hope enough people buy ps3 not for us to have xbox 360 ports and for us to have third party exclusives so i don't care if it's not the best seller, never the less it's good for all you sony fanboys who will bragg and milk it why who knows?

Ah, [Reminiscing time.] I recall a day back in the PS3Land.com era, and Enterbrain said some very harsh things about Sony and the PS3. I remember, though obviously cannot quote (my memory isn't THAT good), how people cursed the name of Enterbrain. And even criticized the name as being stupid, retarded, etc. And saying that Enterbrain can't be trusted, and that they were incredible (in the sense of being -not- credible.)

And now, here, Enterbrain says something good, and suddenly they're as credible and legitimate as birth certificates. People are fickle. Such is humanity. Which is why the world in which we live is so... colorful.

Anyway, back on topic. Good news for Sony. The 40GB was just that extra "push" that the Playstation brand needed back in home territory. I'm sure the same results will come soon for the US. (Not necessarily for November, but for the Holiday season, and the coming months.)

they can only keep this lead longer if they get more games that those people down there want on a constant basis, now if they were to get a port of ace combat 4, which was the only game that gave MS a small lead over ps3 for a small period of time. than i would imagine if they added this game to their library, also sony will have a better more consistant line up begining next year to just there but world wide as well.

Sony needed a shot in the arm and they got it straight from the land of the rising sun.

Great news!! From the title though, it sounds like PS3 outsold the Wii since launch. Also, calmative shouldn't be in there. Unless of course we are talking about sedatives here. Why is c*m*lative banned anyway?

You also have to take the fact that many in JP already have Wii's. >_> Anyway its good that Sony's doing there best to decrease the momentum Nintendo has over there.

I'm not saying that PS3 sales are going to continue beating the Wii's, but the PS3 sales are definately sustainable. Not only sustainable, but they can also increase.

The number is impressive on paper and Im happy for tversity Sony, but on key fact was mentioned in this article and that is that the Wii had shortages. So comparing the numbers to the Wii doesn't get a whole lot of merit with me, but I will give it up to Sony for having such a strong month on their own. Now if they beat out Nintendo without them having shortages, that would truly be special.

It's ridiculous that Nintendo is still having shortages. I mean c'mon, Apple keeps up with supply.
