Did Tools of Destruction leave you asking for more of that zany furball and his robotic friend? Well SCE is letting you know that they plan on bringing Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters to the PS2. For those lucky to own a 20/60/80GB PS3, then this will be good news for you as well.

We're unsure right now if this means that the online capabilities featured on the PSP version will be available as well, but we're confident we'll know soon enough.
Ratchet & Clank are here to bring you something new on the PS2 console. You'll now be able to shrink the dynamic duo down in order to explore new worlds, including Clank's head. Clank also makes a return as a playable character.
We'll keep you up to date with this news as more is released.

The point is to have console quality games on the go. Since it's hardware is very similar to the PS2 it's easy to actually HAVE those games on a console.
The point is they're doing this for money. They know there are millions of people with PS2s that DONT have PSPs if they see the quality of games that the PSP has through this method then they go out and buy PSPs, if not then they've bought a PSP game for a system they acutally DO own.
Win/Win.
Heck I have the game for PSP and I might even pick this up if it really does have extra levels and a nice small price.

its a mistake for sony to keep pushing the ps2 so much. they're having some trouble getting support for the psp and ps3, so the more EXCLUSIVES they have for each platform definitely helps to boost sales and popularity. people who look at the list of psp exclusives and decide to get one now have one less reason.

Good chance this will be heavily pirated.
With support of PS2 titles dropped on the new generation "playstation", the value of original PS2 games is falling. Paying full price for something that will die with your PS2 console is a little silly. Once your PS2 bites the dust the game becomes worthless.
With Sony avoiding any responsibility to build and improve emulation on PS3, its now in the consumers hands to take up the slack. There is a spike of interest in emulators and people are looking at using free PC based emulators like PCSX2 to fill the gap when their PS2 starts to wear out.
Problem is - this perception of PS2 loosing value could lead to increased piracy. Because it's likely that their games will end up runing on an emulator one way or another, they probably think that its not going to be the real thing so why bother paying for the real thing when a 10 cent DVD will do the job? Sony doesn't care so why should they? Sony saved a few cents per PS3 console by removing BC so go by their example... Dont consider the needs of anyone else (like your customers) just consider your own needs and save some money.

PSP and PS2 games have been highly pirated for years now. I dont see why this one would be any different.
Also the PSP is NOT havent trouble getting support look at the latest PSP ads they show HUNDREDS of titles availible for it. I swear people just want to see it one way and never give the system a chance. This is WHY sony's releaseing these games on the PS2 to show people how good PSP games have gotten.
Also where do you get this Bullisht that Sony hasnt been supporting it's Backwards compatibility? Almost every update has held some improvment for games not only on the 60gb but the 80gb as well. just because the 40gb has no PS2 backwards compatibility doesnt mean it's being ignored. People demanded a Cheaper PS3 and this is what they got, if they have no way to play their PS2 games it was their own fault. But of course SOny is being smart to keep the PS2 around because those games are still worth playing. While the PS3 is building up support the PS2 is supplying them with a steady income until it becomes clear to consumers that it's time to upgrade to a PS3 or once the price drops low enough to actualy buy one for some people.
