Capcom shoots down RE5 release date rumours

Capcom has dismissed Internet speculation suggesting that its upcoming sequel Resident Evil 5 would be released in October 2008.

Rumours of an October release originated from US magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, in addition to PSU’s own sources on the game. However, according to Eurogamer, Capcom has reiterated that it has yet to pin down a release date for the upcoming survival horror outing.

It is also worth mentioning that many retailers are sceptical that Capcom would release the game at such a time when it would be up against heavy weight contender, Gears of War 2.

Unfortunately, PSU is unable to elaborate on any details regarding the games release, as we can only confirm that an October date is all we received on the matter. Regardless, more information on the title is expected to crop up at some point this year.

Resident Evil 5 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

They probably are planning on an October release, but if it could be finished and on the shelves earlier it wouldn't be a problem for me. :-) And yeah, where are the undead? The game looks great  (a bit more like the Dawn remake, or 28 days later) but someone needs to start making classic zombie-horror games for the PS3!

How sad is it that everyone is acting like this brand new game series, gears, is bigger than Resident FRIGGIN Evil? As awesome as RE4 was, you'd think that RE5 would be what everyone is looking forward to now...

I think (and strongly hope) that Capcom is just being careful to set a solid release date in light of the numerous titles that have had to be pushed back.  I believe that internally they have set their goal to release in Oct but don't want to say that in case something comes up in the development (like 360 running out of GB's on the game disc!)  At least I hope-half of the reason I bought a PS3 on day one is that I knew someday I would be able to play this game on the best system in gaming history!

Really?  I guess with this thought in mind, since RE5 is more popular, that no games are coming out this holiday season because GeOW2 is just too hyped.  I would have thought RE would be more popular since it will be multi-platform but GeOW2 has more fans on the 360 than RE on all consoles.  SIlly me.

I think RE5 would beat out Gears if it came to them going head to head.
