UK PS3 sales rise 73 per cent over Easter break

UK PlayStation 3 sales increased significantly during the Easter break this past weekend, as sales of the Sony platform console continue to surpass those of the Xbox 360 on a weekly basis.
According to ChartTrack data, both consoles experienced a leap in sales over the Easter holidays, with PS3 increasing by 73 per cent, and the Xbox 360 rising by 78 per cent.
Furthermore, software sales are also believed to have increased substantially as parents and school children alike took advantage of the Easter period.
Speaking to MCV, ChartTrack’s Dorian Bloch commented, “Week 12 fell during Easter so we saw software and hardware up across the board.”
“PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much neck and neck at the moment, with PS3 slightly ahead. Software was up, and the formats that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 appeared on did especially well.”
Bloch predicted that the release of the GT5 Prologue bundle would ignite yet another spark in PS3 sales, adding, “The release of GT5 Prologue and its bundle will see a further rise on PS3 after its release. PS3 has been outselling Xbox 360 for some time, but last week they were pretty close. In terms of sales so far this year, PS3 is ahead.”
“Some schools are on holiday so next week will be similar, as there are a lot of product slated for March 28th. We’ve seen bumper sales this week and we can expect the same for next week,” he concluded.

Despite the 360 price drops across all models (the cheapest model is now CHEAPER than the Wii!) the PS3 still sells better. Excellent.

Well, of course the Xbox 360 experienced a jump in sales, especially since Microsoft dropped the price of the 360 in the U.K. It's almost amazing that the PS3 is still holding it's own in the U.K. even when it costs a lot more than the 360. I guess that people are willing to pay more for a superior product even if it costs more and of course, they are gearing up for MGS4 and the rest of the future PS3 exclusives.
The Xbox 360 doesn't really have a blockbuster exclusive game to boost sales significantly until Gears of War 2 at the end of this year, but Metal Gear Solid 4 will boost PS3 sales signficantly in the middle of the year and in the Fall, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 will boost PS3 sales. Ninja Gaiden 2 for the 360 in the summer wont really boost console sales, but it's still a solid game title. Oh yea, and I almost forgot about GTA4. A lot of people are going to be buying the PS3 or 360 for that game also, But after GTA4, the 360 wont really have anything else.

wow some harsh words so no other games than gta4 and msg4, guess I will be the only sap to own gt5p huh? guess I will have to buy ridge racer 7. realism sucks man! should a bought a wii so I could play smash bros, or maybe a 3fixme so I could buy all the fps's known to man, I need to buy all the fps but too distracted by these "Good" games. Think I'll go steal a car so I can experience real driving.

GTAIV is on the 360, so they were buying for GT5P, but since Vegas was a sequel that was only on next gen systems I doubt that was the reason of the PS3s sales. But it probably was the reason of the 360s.

yeah ps3 pwns 360 thats all there is to it. 360 is now last-gen. microsoft needs to step it up or step down.
