Gran Turismo Producer Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that car deformation will be incorporated in GT5 Prologue in the form of a downloadable update, possibly as soon as fall 2008.

Speaking to IGN Yamuachi commented, "maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it,” before confirming that the feature would be implemented by way of a downloadable update.

Prologue will mark the first title in Polyphony Digital's popular racing sim to feature any form of car deformation, despite the ever-increasing demands of its loyal fan base over the years.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released last week in the UK and Europe, with a North American launch coming on April 15.

This is a huge deal and something I've been wanting for a long while. To those of you saying go play Burnout if you want to see crashes, GT is a sim.  I say, damage and crashes are part of that simulation.  This'll also massively improve online races, and stop them playing like bumper cars.

it better not cost  too much credits if any to fix your car.....it takes to long to build credit and you need every cent to save for that dream powerhouse...RS8 anyone

@ Da Saint - Get to class 'S' and you rake the money in. I do the Daytona ring in a tuned GT40. Get first and you get 32.500 credits and it only takes about 3-4 mins! : )

Thank God for Polyphony Digital. Tons and tons of Devs try hard to top them, but at the end of the day, only they can create an amazing and realistic driving simulator.  Not even Forza Motorsport can compete against the majesty that is Gran Turismo!

The Question is, Will it be a free update? Although it was rather a cheap game, if they do charge it I would like to see other stuff like more F1 car teams etc.

Ugh, lame. I don't understand why people want to see their cars messed up. I personally don't need car damage as a means for handling the car better. I hope this is an optional addition.

I'm the type who could car less about this. I love racing not wrecking. This is just a useless feature that will attract the xbox n00bs who think they are playing a real racing game.

I really don't care if GT5 Prologue or the full GT5 games doen't have damage or not, but it would be cool to see damage in the game. I really don't know why a lot of people make a big deal about the GT games not having damage because the GT series is a realistic racing simulator and the realism is totally focused on the racing aspect of the game and not damage.

i think damage wil be a greataddition adding to the realism of the game. thats the only thing i ever felt was wrong with the gran turismo series. its not "a useless feature ". cars get damaged when they hit something beleive it or not. lol

@kajii - yeah i'd say it will be optional but maybe that option will only be for multiplayer and not the main game..

@AclayPS3 -  Of course GT hasn't been about damage (they couldn't get it) but real life driving HAS damages and with this being a simulation of real life driving do you not think it would be more authentic then bumber cars??

That is awesome. So long as it looks as realistic as everything else, im sure it will be great!

    Cheers Polyphony!!
