Codemasters announced today that the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Games for Windows demo of Race Driver: GRID has exceeded one million downloads since its launch on May 8.

A press release distributed by the company reads:

“For Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system gamers, racing in the demo has become seriously competitive as the European Fastest Final Lap Challenge reaches its final few days. With a brand new BMW 3 Series car† as the ultimate prize, it’s not too late to join the legions of players on the Jarama circuit and set a personal best in the demo’s Time Trial section.

To be placed amongst Europe’s finest and fastest racers, the time to beat currently stands at just over an incredible 73 seconds – 1:13.63†† – with contenders from the U.K., France and Belgium currently amongst the top-ranked drivers.”

Race Driver: GRID utilizes Codemasters own ‘Ego’ game engine, which was previously employed in Colin McRae: DiRT. The game will make use of an innovative instant replay system, allowing players to rewind the action by a few seconds and improve upon their performance accordingly.

In terms of multiplayer, the game will accommodate a total of 32 online race events featuring 80 circuits in all. Players will be able to compete against up to 12 racers online at any one time, and will be rewarded ranking points depending on how well you perform.

Race Driver: GRID is due out in Europe on May 30, with a US release following on June 3.

how anoyed would you be if you recorded a time of 1:13:64 and missing out on a brand new bmw by a fraction of a second.

psn id: gingo... i wasn't too impressed with it when i played it the handling felt awkward and it was annoying going into a spin when you went off the track but thats probably just down to my bad driving skills

I'm with gingo on this.  I couldn't stand the driving in this game.  It looked good, but I gave up on it because I kept spinning out.  Of course, this isn't the first driving game with nice graphics and horrible steering that I've come across and it will probably not be the last.

Presonally I feel that GiRD isnt all what its cracked up to be. I think Gran Turismo is much better.

Grid in no way is a realistic racer. The car handling physics is just bad.

Grid ain't jack, specialy comparing to GTA5. I played it, it sucked. The demo didn't last a day on my system, DELETED!!! It's just a wanna be. Every car kept spinning out the same way, WOW, how realistic is that?! What a joke!

I'm glad to see other people saying the cars handle horribly.  I just thought I sucked at driving games :)  Yeah, if all real cars handled like the ones in that game, we'd all be dead.

GT5P was better, but people seem to like this game because it is more fast paced.  Playing online was easy to get into, and fun for a while, but I deleted it shortly thereafter and went back to GT5P.
