Darth Vader rocking the PS3 version of Soul Calibur IV

Namco director Katsutoshi Sasaki and Official PlayStation Blog have posted two new gameplay videos of Darth Vader in Soul Calibur IV. Sasaki explained how his team was able to bring Vader to life in the world of Soul Calibur.

"The reason we chose Darth Vader as a playable character is very simple: he is probably one of the most symbolic characters in the Star Wars universe and is also one of the most popular worldwide," wrote Sasaki.

Sasaki continued, explaining how they were able to fit the Star Wars world, more specifically Darth Vader, into Soul Calibur without having it feel wrong.

"It’s always very difficult to balance our own perception of how a character should fit in the Soulcalibur universe and their actual gameplay," wrote Sasaki. "If a guest character feels radically different than how we perceive them, a player will take it as a different character, and it’ll lead to disappointment."

"I strongly believe that we have brought Darth Vader up to a level where players will feel 'This is how Darth Vader is!' while playing Soulcalibur IV," expressed Sasaki. "The game expresses him as a lightsaber master with intimidating power and absolute control of the Force. Our players will enjoy playing Lord Vader from the movie and we’re proud to bring them this experience."

Soul Calibur IV is set to release on July 29.

i hate fighting games with swords or any other blades....they slice and dice but the opponent is still in one piece, i'll get one blade fighting game that's more attached to reality.

    @ Righteous
I agree totally man! If anything you would try harder to be better because if u made a wrong move u could lose an arm and possbly get whooped into a loss. Like if they made a lightsaber game where u could cut of hands and heads that be awesome lol.

Darth Vader needs to be over-powered. Darth Vader needs to be able to own anyone and every one of the characters in SC IV. It needs to be a challenge, even for the most advanced SC player, using a random character, to beat the most novice player, using Darth Vader. Why? Because Vader has The Force. His abilities should not be down-played to be balanced with everyone else. I know a lot of people will then complain about how they have "noobs" killing them with Vader, but that's how it has to be. It would be the most satisfying victory to beat someone who uses Vader.

    WOW. Simply wow.

Vader is gonna be dubbed my "Dark Pwnage". Probably will be my third best character next to Siegfried and Kilik.
