Valve confirms no Team Fortress 2 updates for PS3

In an interview with 1UP, Valve Corporation co-founder Gabe Newell and Marketing Director Doug Lombardi have confirmed that free Team Fortress 2 updates offered to Xbox 360 and PC owners will not make the jump to PlayStation 3.

When asked whether EA would support the transplanting of content to the PS3 version, Newell responded: "They're not doing ongoing development on The Orange Box for the PS3." Lombardi went on to state: "We don't have PlayStation developers."

Somewhat encouragingly, the decision appears to owe more to scarce resources than Valve's tempestuous relationship with Sony's machine. Newell's comments with regard to the still-hypothetical PS3 version of Left 4 Dead are revealing.

Valve is an undersized company, with around 160 people on its books last time we checked (to put that figure in context, Rockstar Games employs 180 people at its San Diego studio alone). Given such scant means, it's hardly surprising that the developer has left one of the high definition consoles in the lurch.

Let's hope EA's push for a PS3 Left 4 Dead is successful.

That's a shame :(.  I'm glad I got the Orange Box on the PC, TF2 on PC is great fun and doesn't have the problems of the 360 and PS3 versions.

And insomniac have about 100 people.  I guess 100 dedicated talented people are better than 160 Xbots who munch on Gabe's fat a$!

According to my R&D they have 175+ employees at Insomniac, mate. And they develop for one platform at a time, not two or three.

My bad, but according the the godlike valve (sarcasm) the PS3 is so godly difficult to program for no one can do it.  My point is, Valve has no talented programmers, all they can do is PC coding.  Wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't even code for the iPhone..

I picked up TF2 on the pc and it gets updated like non-stop, especially with the class upgrades they put into place- like a new weapon for each class. But how could they say no updates for a specific console. Makes me sick, I really am disliking Valve lately. I am glad I only purchased tf2, will be staying away from this developer from now on, no matter what they make.

Keep in mind that thos e160 people have to watch over and deal with Steam alone, let alone the PC version, Let alone the xbox and its stuff.  Those 160 peopel ar epushed hard.  Insomniac may only have 100 people, but they are PS3 only, they dont have to deal with Xbox AND PC AND Steam.

Valve has always been a PC developer and probably always will be. The 360's resemblance to PC development is what makes it easier for them develop it. I don't think the PS3 is even on their radar just because it doesn't seem worth their time. Most people who have a ps3 probably also have a pc, and it's not like source engine requires a top notch pc, so I would just recommend you give it a go on the PC. It's the best version of Orange box anyways, as you get all the home brewed content.

And don't say that Valve is in bed with MS because Gabe has stated numerous times about what a joke Vista and "games for windows" really is.

@ 14 I agree. I hate it when people chew out Gabe Newell. They are truly a PC group. Your PS3 at the LEAST cost $400. A PC for less can run source.

Valve's attitude to the ps3 just sucks total b@lls.

They should start to respect their customers regardless what system they use.

    HL2 was F&*&^*&^ wicked!

But i am NEVER giving Valve another £ for anything.
