The latest sales figures from Japan show a continued slump in the number of weekly PlayStation 3’s sold, though the PlayStation Portable continues to push a respectable number of units by the week.
According to sales figures posted on VideoGaming247.com, the PS3 sold just over 7200 units last week, putting it in last place for console sales. Even worse yet, this is the fourth week that the Xbox 360 has managed to outsell Sony’s next-gen system, and by a margin of over 1000 units. Could this be a shift in the tide of Japan’s console loyalty? Or merely a drought in Sony sales?
However, on a lighter note, the PSP is selling over five times as well as the PS3 and the PS2 is outselling the Xbox 360 by several hundred units. The handheld was previously named the best selling console in Japan for the first half of 2008.
