Summary

CyberConnect2 has done a terrific job with the Naruto franchise. With Ultimate Ninja Storm being a PlayStation 3 exclusive, it’s evident that the developers took advantage of the hardware they were given. Fans of the series should be ecstatic, while newcomers may be surprised with how much they enjoy the game.

We like

  • Simplistic controls
  • Stunning visuals
  • Tons of missions to enjoy

We dislike

  • Long load times
  • Simplistic controls (yes, it's both)

(continued from previous page) ...When I first loaded up the title, I was taken aback by the look of the game because I had not played the demo. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to the presentation of a title, but CyberConnect2 earns two big thumbs up for the flawless transition from anime to game.

The developers continued the great visual trend with an audio performance worth recognizing. Unlike other game adaptations where the voiceovers and dialog feel forced, Naruto embraces its characters and pulls anime fans and non-fans alike into the world of the Hidden Leaf Village. While I was disappointed that there wasn’t enough dialog on an overall scale, I can’t knock the game for the dialog it does provide.

Sadly on the technical side of things, Ultimate Ninja Storm does take roughly 10-12 minutes to install. Usually an install isn’t such a bad thing because it leads to shorter load times, but for Naruto, the load times are still lengthy and far too frequent. This may throw off gamers who are a tad ADD, but I’d expect the game to load much quicker considering I had to wait for the install to complete just to play the game.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm may arguably be the best movie or show to game adaptation to date. There are some strong contenders for that title -- such as the Chronicles of Riddick -- but within this generation, Naruto: UNS is in a league of its own.

I played the demo and though the controls were wayy to simple.  For an anime so grand as Naruto, I'd expect the characters to have a wide array of attacks to use.  Sure, it was still fun to play, but it feels very restricting.

As an anime Naruto is overrated, but as a video game I think it pulls it off really really good.

This is kind of a nitpick, but Naruto is known for his love of ramen and not udon.

There's free DLC for the game on PSN already. Being that it's so small I have to think it's either a patch for a character that was supposed to be available on the disk masquerading as DLC, or an unlock for a surprise character that wasn't originally doKEWmented. Either way the demo impressed me a lot and I'll probably be picking up the game very soon. Just so effin' many cool games coming out though, I dont have enough time for them all!
