UPDATE: Firmware 2.60 is now available to download.
Original Article: The next Firmware update for the PlayStation 3 is quickly approaching and as always, Sony is detailing the entire update on the Official PlayStation Blog. While key things users have been asking for such as cross-game chat, new PSN avatars and MKV support are not implemented in this update, cool additions include an upgrade to the photo gallery and DivX 3.11 support.
Believe it or not, the new photo gallery application is actually quite nifty. All of the added features within the application give users a plethora of options when it comes to arranging and displaying all of their digital photos.
The blog lists the added features as such: "Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface."
Of course, this isn’t the only change coming into play with Firmware 2.60. Guests can now access the PlayStation Store in order to entice them to sign up for the network (which is free anyways) and start downloading.
