Killzone 2 SuperBowl advert rocks

SuperBowl ads, despite their often comedic nature, are serious stuff. A single second of airtime on the most watched television event of the year costs upwards of $100,000. If you're a videogame company with deep pockets, you want those millions of dollars to mean something.

In our humble opinion, Sony marketing could not have crafted a more appropriate, more epic advertisement than the Killzone 2 ad that is set to air this Sunday. It's relevant, it's witty, and it's god damn gorgeous. For a $5,000,000 TV spot, we'd expect nothing less. We've embedded it below, courtesy of GameSpy.

Im surprised SCEA would throw down that amount of money. Great to see them backing a great game with good advertisments at good times. hopefully we get the KZ2 PS3 bundle in the states and it will make for a good beging of the year. Great ad. Go Cardinals!!!

@3 - It's $5 mil to reach 150 million viewers. That's like .03 cents a person. Between the people who see that and are convinced to buy it immediately, and the people who buy it via word of mouth generated by this ad, it's worth the money. Plus it should definitely help shift some PS3 consoles.

Should've been more game-focused rather than football focus IMO. It will work though.

I can't believe Sony spent 5 million on this thing - not that it's a bad thing, but it just comes as a huge surprise. I could have seen M$ pulling something like this, but wow, I have to give props to Sony. Nice.

Sadly, the video is a bit odd with them trying to tie in football and everything, but then again, the audience that they're trying to get to here is......a bit on the......well, let's just say that they won't notice that it's not really conveying it's own theme in the situation....

I hope this game sells like mad, though, may it sprout wings and buy the GG workers many hours of pleasure in the future lol, and help Sony be able to fund more epic stuff of the sort.

I really like the "Sudden Death" line but the rest of it is pretty weak.

The issue here is that they developed a "super bowl" commercial. It will aire one day... A SINGLE DAY. they spend 5 million to show this commercial ONCE, probably right after the kickoff where most people will be too busy downing their first giant sandwich to even notice.

What they should have produced was something more like one of the big summer movie trailers that will likely be shown for the first time that night, that's the type of thing people will be looking for, that's what they pay attention to. This wont win any awards and it's not going to be visible to anyone except for the people who already preordered it. In short. It's a nice try but it's no touch down.

But if it's a consolation the game will still sell millions even without the comercial, it;s just sad they couldnt make one that would sell the game to anyone else.

Alpha2 - not quite, buddy. Like Eric said, this commercial's being showed to 150 million + people, and since the commercials in the Superbowl are notoriously humorous and of good quality, most watch all the Superbowl commercials.

Hence, all the youtube videos of the best Superbowl commercials and polls to see people's favorite commercial.

This commercial, in my mind, was PERFECT for Killzone 2 sales at this time, because Killzone 2 doesn't seem like that kind of game that mainstream average joe's that don't keep up with gaming would know about. When those LOADS of people watch this commercial, though, they are already excited and hyped for the Superbowl, so their adrenaline carries over to hyping other things, like a game that just looks insanely bad@.ss they just randomnly saw on a commercial.

All the people with PS3's watching it will see that 'For Playstation 3 only' at the end, and decide that it's something they need to check in to. It's something that will spread not only by direct viewing of this video, but by word of mouth as well.

Sony really did it right on this one IMO. I want to see how much Killzone 2 sells now, I'm predicting near MGS4 figures if not more.
