Sony has responded to NPD hardware figures for January 2009, affirming the company’s belief that the PlayStation 3’s “blockbuster” software line up will continue to drive momentum throughout the remainder of the year.
PS3 sold through 203,200 units last month compared to the same period last year, where the platform managed to shift 269,000. In comparison, the machine’s rivals all experienced a year-on-year increase in sales.
Despite this, Sony remains optimistic of the year ahead, with senior vice president of marketing for SCEA, Peter Dille, commenting:
"The PlayStation brand experienced a record year in sales in 2008 and we have every reason to believe our blockbuster line-up combined with PS3's position as the best Blu-ray player and most sophisticated entertainment device out there, will continue to fuel increased marketshare and momentum into 2009."
"We've truly upped the ante this year with an unmatched software line-up ahead, kickstarting with the much anticipated and platform-moving title Killzone 2 later this month. We're the only company to offer three viable platforms today and will continue to deliver a seamless and comprehensive entertainment experience to our customers for many years to come."

Killzone 2 and Street Fighter 4 should help a lot this month. But, I think we really need a price cut.

why does everyone assume sony are fools this generation around because ppl are so poor they cant buy a ps3, yet spend as much to get their 360 working just as well. the system is selling at a faster rate in the same period of time as the 360 and the fools around the world buying these crappy arcade xbox versions probably have NO idea of the additional costs they'll need to even get a decent level of play.

no price cut, no business. WE ARE IN A RECESSION SONY !
If I didn't have a PS3 or Xbox, and was wondering which one to buy, xbox would be first choice, because it's cheaper. Yes PS3 has blueray and all other advantages, but in the end, it's a gaming machine.
ps. I love my PS3 and glad to have one. Bring on KZ2 !

InfiniteRetro not everyone is a hardcore gamer. So most people don't care to buy a 60GB harddrive they just want to play through the games, and that's about it. Even if they do buy the extra stuff by the time these casual gamers catch on most of the items will have dropped in price some more.
Me myself personally I'd rather have choices for my console than. "You must have this cause I say so". Also you must be immune to the country going into this recession/depression man? Cause people are focused on more important things now other than gaming consoles.

Do not fear the PS3 will come good (in fact it is doing pretty good), and Sony certainly know what they are doing, they have been in this game far too long to come even remotly close to messing up, why are people so negative all the time? £299 is cheap and yes a price cut would help no end, but i think that people are starting to realise the bennefits of a PS3. I for one know of several people now who have recently bought a PS3, when i first got one on UK launch i had no friends in my friends list boo hoo but now i have loads, even my 360 buddies are converted (mainly due to the 360 dieing and they cant be bothered to get it fixed) so it goes to show that its taken a long time but people are seeing the bennefits and when the price cut does come sony will be on top of the pile once again.

The PS3 HAS already SOLD more than the 360 world wide, the only reason that the 360 has higher figures in the sales is because they class the xbox360's they replace (when a customer of them gets the RROD they replace there xbox360) with the customers as a sale so:
PS3 Sold - 22m +
Xbox360 Sold - 28m + But if they class the replaced xbox's as a sale take 33%+ off there sale, we are ahead. They are desperate to stay ahead of the ps3 thats why they class the replaced xbox360's as a sale. Have fun knowing we are ahead even though they had a year headstart :) -

Will anybody who mentions price cut go and play with traffic.
The PS3 is a quality entertainment device and not a crappy american piece of underate engineering like the xbox360.
Admitedly the xbox360 is cheap from first glance but you don't get a blu-ray player, you have to subscribe to your network and if you listened in math class then you would appreciate that the total cost of ownership of an xbox360 is higher than that of the PS3.
So stop your winging, start educating people that PS3 is the best deal instead of prattling on about price cuts and invest your pitiful efforts at business management into a lemonade stall o your front lawn instead of airing your ignorance online.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
If you still can't help yourself then I have predicted (many many times) that Sony will make an announcement after the summer so you'll have to wait until then.

If Sony would be smart they would sell a whole lot more if
1. They make a price cut.
2. Advertise the games correctly. Have you seen any of the advertisements lately for a new game, Sony's ad agency just sucks.
3. Then they can just let the exclusives talk for themselves but before 1, and 2 sales numbers won't go up too much. ESPECIALLY without any good advertisements. Those TSHIRT commercials were just crappy.
