Ubisoft preparing to take on the sports genre

When you think of Ubisoft, you don't generally think of sports games. Outside of Shaun White's Snowboarding, can you think of the last Ubisoft sports title to hit the market? It's hard, isn't it? Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recognizes the company's absence from the genre and plans to make the necessary moves in order to begin taking a larger chunk of its market share.

Considering their latest title into the genre earned the company €500 million in just under three months, it's quite obvious that there is money to be had. According to Guillemot, he wants to go to battle with 2K Sports and EA Sports in order to demonstrate that Ubisoft can compete with the best of the best.

"Sports is a difficult genre to break into and I am extremely pleased with the results; Shaun White Snowboarding was our first tie-in with a professional athlete and it has been a huge success worldwide," said Guillemot.

“Working with Shaun White has been great and I think that shows in the fun and excitement of the game when you play it. This is definitely an area in which we plan to grow our presence.”

While Shaun White did have its positives, it wasn't without its faults. Still, we look forward to seeing what Ubisoft has planned for a genre in serious need of new ideas.

I guess you can't get any more repetitive than sports games, so Ubisoft should feel right at home!

if they plan on branching into "mainstream" like american football, soccer, basketball, nhl etc. (btw. im english but saying soccer as not to confuse all those americans out there) then its good cos it means EA can stop being practically the only sports developer. competition is a good thing.

I am a firm believer that 99% of sports games are repetitive monotonus junk and that the people who buy them are a bit silly, esp if they own the previous years copy and they then buy this years copy.

They always go down to about half price after a month too, just shows the sturdyness of those kind of games.

    Good luck to them.

It will take some time and hard work to catch up with the likes of 2K sports however.

EA on the other hand needs to watch their back.  Atleast they still have the college sports and NFL exclusive license to get them by. =)

Have any of you that are bashing sports ever played NBA 2K, or Madden I don't mean just 2 games from each I mean more than 6 at least. Because I can go back around, and say "Oh Killzone 2 is repetitive becasue of the fact it's an FPS, and it looks the same as most others out there". I could even use COD as an example because it's true to.

Sports,Killzone,LBP,every Game ever » repetitive why is it a bad thing? or maybe most PS3 gamers are thick ( you bring shame to Playstation and the greatest Games ). Hopefully Ubisoft can get an Ice hockey game started there's Hockey teams in Europe & NORTHERN IRELAND you know maybe Ubisoft have a chance just add sweet graphics & gameplay and it will be better then NHL
