Images of Dante's Inferno bring back memories

When Electronic Arts first introduced the world to Dante's Inferno, literary aficionados wept. How often have literary masterpieces failed as video game adaptations? Beowulf, anyone? Then came the announcement that Dante's Inferno would be a hybrid of God of War and Dead Space, which certainly added a bit of "let's see where this goes" to some of the doubters.

It goes without saying that Dead Space is a great new IP in the library of titles on offer from EA. However, fans of God of War have to be skeptical considering the franchise's success and history.

Today, Eurogamer revealed four new in-game images of Dante's Inferno which are pleasing, yet disappointing. They're pleasing because you can tell God of War was truly an inspiration to the development team. However, it's disappointing that it looks as though God of War I and II were that inspiration, not God of War III. It's not quite evident yet if the visuals will live up to this generation's standard or not.

We've included the images below, but you can check them out in larger dimensions in our Dante's Inferno image gallery.

I think it'll look alright when they're finished, besides Dead Space has very good graphics for a multiplatform game. It would be weird if they stopped.

stole the name from devil may cry, i dont think it will go anywhere near god of war 1 let alone number 3.

The name wasn't stolen.. Dante's Inferno was a book written during 1300 AD or so.. It seems more like Devil May Cry stole the name, not the other way around

Devil May Cry took influence from Dante's Inferno. One of Dante's influence was a Roman poet called Vergil

This looks interesting I like the picture where there fighting on the back of something...you can see the spine and the back of the head, but in the same picture the guy has the EXACT same, or very similar, stance that Kratos usually has. I'll check this game out but I'm doubting I'll push anything off my to-buy list for this.

I can see they took alot from GoW 1 and 2 I just hope this isn't a cheap GoW knockoff.

looks good enough, I'm more worried about the actual game-play and the story.  I'm looking forward to this game; hope they don't mess it up.

Looks like it could be fun. If it is similar to GoW 1 or 2, then I have no problems with that. This could be a fun game. It doesn't have to be better than GoW 3 to be a good game, it just won't be as good.

Hmm, a worse-looking God of War...

The book was great, so this will be good if it goes along with the story. Unfortunantly, Dante didn't actually fight anyone in the book, so this already strays away from what the main focus should be. Oh well...

Sorry, but this positively REEKS of plagiarism. Pretty blatant, if you ask me. EA, you 5uck!
