Disney Interactive has officially revealed Black Rock Studio's latest outing, Split/Second. The racing game pits players against each other on city tracks overflowing with dangerous environmental hazards. The drivers can actually trigger these hazards to derail their opponents, drastically affecting the outcome of the race.

“Split/Second elevates action racing to a new level by enabling players to strategically take out their opponents by dynamically altering the course in real time,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “Split/Second further showcases Black Rock Studio’s ability to innovate and deliver a compelling experience that has wide appeal beyond the traditional racing genre.”
The races within Split/Second are aired on a "hyper-competitive reality television show," with contestants blazing through a "made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion." Death Race, anyone?

“We’re creating huge memorable moments on par with the biggest blockbuster action films,” said Nick Baynes, game director, Black Rock Studio. “Action racing has captured the imagination of video game fans worldwide and we’re going to redefine that experience with Split/Second.”
Split/Second certainly sounds unique -- hopefully the gameplay mechanics hold up once we actually get our hands on them. We'll have more for you on Split/Second soon.

Pure was really good so I am hoping this turns out to be good. It sounds like it could be some crazy fun.

The trailer was great looking and since it's from the guys that did Pure I'm sure this will be great too. Still, I'd like to see it in motion and I'm dying to get behind the wheel to see how well it plays. Seems like a great multiplayer game. I was "this close" to buying Pure but the trick system got old after a few tracks. Here's hoping this game can do better at keeping mine and other gamers' attentions.

So everyone can blow everything up, if that's so than not even after one lap there won't be anything left to destroy, kind of a weird concept for a game!
Off-topic, wasn't there going to be kart simulator game available on the PS network?

That's a real cool idea. Actually when I went to see "Death Race" (which was kind of a second choice movie really :P), I thought how cool would it be if there was a game like that. I guess they had the same idea, the only difference is that..they can actually do the game!so there, hope it will deliver...
