Sony: PS3 will stand the test of time

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) vice president of marketing Peter Dille has reiterated the platform holder’s commitment to backing PlayStation 3 for the next decade, boasting that the machine will be the “centerpiece of your entertainment for the next 10 years.”

Speaking to GameDaily, Dille commented, “We also have to work hard to gain our consumers’ trust and make them comfortable that when they buy a PS3, it’s going to stand the test of time.”

“The fact of the matter is we’re the only console manufacturer that’s ever launched a product that’s had a 10-year life-cycle. And we’ve done that now not once, but twice.”

Dille went on to note that although the economic slump is likely to deter punters from forking out for expensive goods, consumers are more likely to invest in value – and PlayStation 3 makes for the ideal choice.

“One of the great things about the PS3 is that if you buy it today you can be confident it's going to be the centerpiece of your entertainment for the next 10 years. Economically, that's a great value."

"Yes, in tough times people think twice about discretionary spending, but we also know people spend for value. They are looking for things that will last before they spend the money. We believe that plays right into our strengths," he said.

Stop releasing these PR speals about it that are only read by a small group of consumers and start putting commercials out promoting value then.

    well said #2

whatever SCEA says, SCEE are still miles behind in terms of services.  Home is out of date and lost momentum. We still have no video store.  Maybe time to move to US

I agree with #2. Sony needs to start advertising the PS3 more and show how much this system is a bang for your buck, and not spend on a system that gets RROD or just dies on you. I am very happy with the systems that Sony has come out with and will continue to improve

They have said this so many times now it's stupid, stop posting this crap that has been said over 100 times.   They have said this same crap like 50 times and it's been posted on PSU.com like 25 times.   This is retarded.

Yes, we know the PS3 is futureproof, to the extent that any system can be.  Now bypass the unfriendly media sources and put that out on the airwaves for all to see.

I hope so. The software is "arguably" incredible and the hardware is "undesputibly" the best. Especially with the Wii being a Gamecube with motion controls and every Xbox 360 randomly crapping out with the RROD. I swear that system is the Ford Pinto of consoles.

if sony want the ps3 to last then theyre going to have to drop the price and improve their servers...fast

@13 Forgot about that, another reason the hardware is so great, you can easily update your memory. For the price of 100 dollars I bought a 500 gig drive.

@14 They do need to drop the price but the servers are fine, every blue moon the store has problems like yesterday but they always fix it fast which is great for a free service. I remember back in 2007 around christmas when Xbox live went down for about 3 weeks despite the fact that they charge an arm and a leg for the service.
