It's always interesting to see how Sony's PlayStation 3 is fairing within Nielsen reports in comparison to the Wii and Xbox 360. The firm recently sampled 17,000 TVs across the United States last December, an ideal time to conduct this type of study as a lot of teenagers are out of school for winter break. In what may come as a surprise to some, PlayStation 3 lead the pack in what we think are the most significant categories: Active User Percentage and Daily Average Sessions.
We've included the revealed rankings below.
Active User Percentage
Nintendo Wii - 6.8%
Xbox 360 - 10.2%
PlayStation 3 - 10.6%
Average Usage Days
Nintendo Wii - 5
Xbox 360 - 7.1
PlayStation 3 - 6.8
Daily Average Sessions
Nintendo Wii - 1.78
Xbox 360 - 2.15
PlayStation 3 - 2.42
Despite the ridiculous lead that Nintendo has built in marketshare with its family-friendly console, it would appear the average consumer spends decidedly less time waggling their Wii motes per session than hammering away at a Sixaxis or 360 pad.

Thats the flip side to catering to the casuals.THEY DONT REALLY PLAY GAMES.Wiis are in places like hospitals and stuff.Obese people around the world are using them once a day or so only to workout. They dont care about Madworld.48 million Wiis and cant sell any software without Mario in it.Shame.

Since Twilight Princess I dipped into RE4 (expected better graphics upgrade for 2x Gamecube, anti-aliasing at least?), Super Mario Galaxy (better than Sunshine but still nothing on SM64) and nothing else really grabs me as superb. So those are my Wii games along with Wii Sports which I think is a complete turd.

The WII is a casual gaming console. Which means that play casually. Like one twice a week, if that.
I am almost over the whole 360 v PS3. I have a PS3 and I love it. I does what I need from a console and it has games which I consider great and love to play.

#5 is right. You have the numbers wrong. According to the PDF linked to here the 360 is at 11.4% active user sessions. The only one in which the PS3 is over the 360 is in the Daily avg sessions.

Weird, I saw a chart the other day on Ars stating that PS3 gets the least amount of playtime out of all the systems, including Gamecube. And has been for the past year.
