Modern Warfare 2 reacquires 'Call of Duty' branding?

Nobody seems sure what's going on with Modern Warfare 2's title. First, everyone assumed that the game would be named 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,' but then we received word that the game was dropping 'Call of Duty' from its name. Now, however, VG247 reports that Activision referred to the game as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 during its quarterly earnings call.
Activision, please just settle on a title. That way, we wouldn't have to keep changing it in our database.
With or without 'Call of Duty,' Modern Warfare 2 will arrive later this year.

I dont care about the name as long as it is better than CoD4.

Maybe they don't want to confuse the unaware consumer, since Call of Duty is a pretty big mainstream hit. Just like I think "Band Hero" won't sell much, I don't think MW2 would sell that much without the CoD tag.

Yeah they need to make up their mind. Maybe when the numbers were released that showed how well World at War's map pack 1 was selling, they realized that dropping the franchise tag wasn't such a great idea. Hardcore fans will always know what's what, but there are many casual fans who may not buy it if it doesn't say Call of Duty.
The whole thing is confusing though. They argue over whether or not World at War is part 5... I think they should always use the call of duty name in the title, but just drop the numbers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is fine. But Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 would be dumb.

We all know it's Call of Duty6: Modern Warfare 2, whether they take the COD lable off of it or not so just call it what it is, COD:MW2.

This is not Call of Duty 6. World at War isn't even Call of Duty 5...People need to stop making that mistake and look closer at the WaW boxart.
Anyways, Call of Duty or not, I'll be calling it Modern Warfare 2 anyways.

@5 haha no it should be Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2

If all else fail the can call the game Pie, who doesn't like pie?

See what I'm saying? I only mentioned the World at War/5 thing and already people here are getting defensive. Haha! It's ridiculous. The correct answer of course is this: Who gives a crap? Drop the numbers after Call of Duty and just give future games a secondary title like World at War or Modern Warfare.
