Thief 4 officially confirmed, platforms TBA

Eidos Montréal today confirmed the development of Thief 4, the next installment in the massively popular stealth action series.

The team behind the sequel is comprised of a number of industry veterans, all of who have worked on various triple-A titles in past years, bringing their personal expertise to their respective fields. Eidos Montréal is confident that this team will be able to create a game that not only lives up to its reputation, but also exceeds it. The same development team is also in the process of working on Deus Ex 3.

“We’re in the early development stages for Thief 4, but this is an incredibly ambitious and exciting project for Eidos,” said Stéphane D’Astous, General Manager at Eidos-Montréal. “While it’s too early for us to offer any specific game details, right now we are focused on recruiting the very best talent to join the core team at the studio and help us make what we believe will be one of the most exciting games on the market.”

Platforms have yet to be confirmed (though we're fairly sure it'll show up on PlayStation 3), but we hope to have more news on the project in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

    @3

    I totally agree with you Thief 3 was ace, I loved it. I got it for the original Xbox and played it to absolute death.

    I can understand why you might have been dissapointed by Thief 3 but it was a much tighter experience than Thief 2, not that metal age didn't have its plus points... I loved that game too. Also played that to death until my HDD in my PC died a premature death due to an incident with Dr Pepper that we refer to as 'pop gate' in my house!!! Bad memories coming flooding back must go and sit down in a darkend room. Great news about Thief 4 any way lets hope its developed for consoles primarily first and we get it on PS3.

    Nope I don't think any of the Thief games have ever been released on any Playstations although I could be wrong.

    Thief 1 and 2 were both PC only I believe, if you played a Thief game on Xbox it'll have been Thief: Deadly Shadows or Thief 3, top game it was too.

    Fingers crossed their statement of "Incredibly ambitious" means they're trying to top some class games like MGS4, and just not make a game thats ambitious for the time frame they set out.

    Please, for the love of God, include Deadly Shadows in the same disc. I want to be able to get rid of my original xbox, and that's the only game that's making me hold on to it.
