Rockstar boss Ben Feder has expressed his confidence in Sony in regards to the company’s upcoming PS3-only action romp Agent, noting how platform exclusivity can facilitate in the process of launching new IP.
Speaking to Gamespot, Feder stated, “The trade-offs a publisher will typically make is, if you're platform-agnostic, you get a larger installed base,” adding, “You're platform exclusive when you get the right kind of support from first parties.”
“At this phase in the cycle, when you're trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise. It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work.”
Feder heaped praise on Sony’s black box, describing it as a ‘terrific’ platform to be developing for: “I have a lot of confidence in Sony. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to lead the market, as they always have. Their console is a terrific platform to be developing for, and Agent is a great testament as to our belief in what that platform can do, and what they can do with us as part of a partnership.”
Agent is currently in development at Rockstar North, with a release date yet to be announced.

This does make sense to me, especially since it will probably be a large-scale game.
But, I think some of his words are guided by PR by other Rockstars higher-ups or Sony.

From a marketing perspective, i do not care if a game is exclusive or not!!
But from the results we have seen with Exclusive PS3 games, the visuals and game play (which some exlclusions) are overwhelming!
I think devs do understand that most hardcore base are on the PS3 , and try to acheive what core gamers would like to see in their exclusive games!

Well we all know that XBox 360 games can't get better and most developers are reporting that they have not even figured out the basics of developing for the PS3.
Sony is about to blow up this year and own next year!

Exclusivity used to work when one console was way more popular than the competition. Then the developers could not justify the cost of porting games to other platforms if there was no return. Sony has shot itself in the foot by losing market share. The only way Sony can redeem itself is by cutting the price in half and announcing a FF7 remake exclusively for the PS3.

the hidden statement in this is we'll focus on one machine for the 1st title and once we see how popular it is we can look at expanding across platforms.

Exclusivity gets fanboys to buy your game before it proves itself worth something (but it needs to have pretty graphics, etc).
