Cage: PS3 is 'the best platform' for Heavy Rain

Developer Quantic Dream has described Sony’s PlayStation 3 as “the best platform” in which to release its hotly anticipated mystery thriller Heavy Rain on.
Speaking during a Q&A session at the London Eurogamer Expo this past weekend, studio founder David Cage revealed that the decision to plump for Sony’s black box boiled down to the console’s impressive technical prowess.
“Whatever I answer, my answer will be suspicious… I think it had to be on PlayStation 3 for two main reasons: the hardware, the architecture of the PS3 is extremely powerful in the way it is structured. If you make a real PS3 engine, then you can have really fantastic performances. If you try to port from another platform, then it becomes difficult,” he said.
“This is a console we all love at the studio. I play PSOne, PS2, it’s really a part of my culture. The controller is part of my home… and it’s a really, really powerful console.”
Elsewhere, Cage added that he feels it is possible to achieve emotional content without the need for ultra realistic visuals, though conceded the team’s approach to Heavy Rain resulted in the need for that extra graphical muscle afforded by the PS3.
“I’m not so much into graphics, to be honest with you, I don’t believe you need ultra realistic graphics to get emotion, you can get that with very low graphics. But we wanted to create emotion from believable characters, that was the idea. With this approach PS3 was by far the best platform.”
Heavy Rain is due out exclusively on PS3 in 2010.

Well if a game is made specifically for the PS3 you get great results, Uncharted, Ratchet etc. When a game is ported over from PC and 360 you run into problems because of how advanced the PS3's development tech is. Anyway I'm happy a game this complicated was made for PS3 only so I don't have to worry about porting issues. Can't wait to play this one. I need something that's going to make me think.

Anyways they've took the right choice picking the PS3 since we have yet to see a game fully utilize the PS3's power. Uncharted 2 look great but im sure we can get a better looking game.

@DonMatteo
Don the PPE is the one core, it has access to main memory and dispenses jobs to the SPUs. The SPUs are sub processers, no access to main memory. SPUs do not have "Branch Prediction" circuitry, meaning they can't do OOE (out of order executions), meaning no AI (artifical intelligence), no advanced physics, no game control. Of the 8 SPUs one is inoperative for quality control reasons and another is locked into holding the OS (operating system) for the remaining 6 SPUs as the OS is different from the core (PPE).

Heavy Rain.. mmmm. Can't wait. And of course I'm glad they went with PS3 exclusive, as we all know ported games fail. We all know this so it's not exactly news, but still nice to hear.

what am I trying to prove? that saying 'first' no more makes me a c0ck than spawn of stumpy referring to himself in the third person and ripping a cheesy line from fight club.
it's amazing that I'm immature for writting 'first' and yet calling someone a c0ck is fine.
thanks for the help with my post though. how about you learn to spell 'letter' and 'basically' before you chime in?
