The PlayStation Network will soon reach beyond the PlayStation 3 and the PSP. At today’s press conference at CES, Sony head Kaz Hirai said the PSN will soon operate on new platforms. This means that your VAIO laptops or Bravia TVs will soon be able to harness the power of the PSN.

PSN accounts will also work across the new platforms, meaning there will be one user login that will work on all of your Sony products. This service will be open to any windows-based PC starting next month. You will be able to use your existing PSN ID and PS Wallet to access your account.

Sony also plans to extend its premium video service to more devices, such as internet-enabled Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players. The newly established Sony Network Entertainment Inc. will be tasked with overseeing this extension of the PSN. Hirai said the melding of software, hardware, and other content is crucial for the growth of Sony in 2010.

We’ll have more news from CES throughout the week.

This is actually pretty awesome. Maybe they'll go like Games for Windows Live! did and have any Sony game on PC (not that there's much) have trophies!

I hope they make changes on activation/deactivation rules for you can only download movies on one activated PS3 right now.  I would hope they would increase the activations if you want to include BD players and TVs.

@6: videos, trailers, films, tv-series, cross platform applications, PSP downloads for transfer.. The kind of thing I'm using torrents for now, I guess..

..Not bad, Sony. I expect a serious storm from the gaming media over this one. "No, no! We love proprietary formats that only work on a single box! It's the end of days! Movies shall be watched in the cinema, or else the economy tanks!".

Another smart move for Sony. I wonder what took them so long to meld their different business units together. The integration doesn't have to be Apple-ish, just enough to encourage customers to keep their purchases under the Sony umbrella.

First and foremost probably the video store. If you have a Bravia TV it would be cool to just go on PSN via that and watch your movies etc rather than doing it through a noisy console

The only use that i can think for this is to download films to the laptop, but i'd still rather have it on my PlayStation so i can watch it on my 56 inch TV ;)

I can imagine them allowing TVs to play the likes of minis and small psn games and obviously downloading videos, movies and vidzone.
