Heavy Rain sequel is unlikely

David Cage, founder of developer Quantic Dream, has poured cold water on any hopes of seeing a sequel to Heavy Rain, despite the fact the PlayStation 3 thriller has yet to even grace store shelves.
Apparently, Cage isn’t fussed on the idea of a sequel due to the fact he’s already told the story he wanted to in the original. “I don’t want to do a sequel because I’ve said what I had to say about these characters and this story,” he said during a chinwag with OPM.
“Honestly, I have nothing else to say,” he added.
Elsewhere, Cage also touched on the game’s planned DLC, stating, “The game tells a full story, nothing is missing from it. The approach to DLC was to say, let’s work on prequels. What led the characters to be who they are in Heavy Rain? What happened to them before?”
Heavy Rain will be released in both the U.S. and UK next month. Expect a full review here at PSU as soon as we get our mitts on it.

Well....stories end don't they?
I think it's better for them to work on something they want to work on rather than making a Heavy Rain 2 they don't want to make.

I wouldn't have expected a sequel either. If the game does well, however, I can see Quantic Dream making another entry into the series - that is, creating another game of this genre and style of gameplay, but with different characters and story. Not a sequel in the traditional sense, but just a completely separate game much like Heavy Rain is to Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit; like what Ico is to Shadw of the Colossus and The Last Guardian; by no means sequels, but similar games that vary in story and characters, with only the style/genre connecting them.

Well that's good. From seeing the gameplay and hearing about the story its kind of good that they aren't trying to milk a series.

They could still make a Heavy Rain 2. It doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t have to be about the same characters or even share the same story elements. The only way that wouldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t really work is if the name is heavily related to something in the story (which is possible, as I see it rains a lot, and I think I even saw a video where the intro text kept track of the water level).

well, it\\\'s good to see that someone is not greedy and start exploding an IP just for the money
I think Ubisoft should think about this for the plans they have for assassins creed 3! greedy people!

That all translates as 'We're not doing a cop-out cliffhanger'.
Thank you, David Cage!

Of course it won't have a sequel. Heavy Rain isn't a direct sequel to Indigo Prophecy just like their next game won't be a sequel to Heavy Rain. I bet the gameplay will remain similar though.

This game looks to be like 1 whole story but multiple ones at the same time
it would be kind of hard to have a sequel
like what if you went through whole game with same character or killed all 4? the sequel would have to be accustomed for that
Plus Heavy Rain is unique doesnt need a Heavy Rain 2 I say its a good move

I really like the idea of having DLC prequels. If we assume that the story is captivating, people will want to know more about the characters, so it's probably worth checking out. At the same time you're not forced to pay for some features that would have belonged in the original game (DLC moves in a scary direction).
Apart from that it's really strange to hear talk about a sequel at this point. Also, I would imagine that, depending on the financial success, they may be hard pressed to create a sequel.
