Media Molecule has revealed that LittleBigPlanet 2 may not end up being fully backwards compatible with its critically acclaimed predecessor.

Speaking to the chaps at EDGE magazine, the company’s co-founder, Alex Evans, admitted that it “might not succeed” in getting all stages from the original game to work with the sequel as a result of “exploits people have used” in making them.

“We may not get 100 percent backwards compatibility,” Evans conceded, “but I hope we do.”

“It’s a really hard job to QA it, with millions of levels to get through. We might not succeed in all the exploits people have used.”

Sounds fair tho. They can't have 2 versions of the game running at the same time, one is obviously more upto date with refined tools. Those tools might haved be used differently before.

well tbh sounds pretty fair to me, he said they are aiming for 100% but people have used slightly idfferent exploits. when i read the title my first thought was "not cool man" but seems reasonable enough

    what he mean by exploits?

But fair enough 2million levels and all probably wouldnt be easy

An example of an exploit. You try to place an object somewhere, then before placing it you hit start and go back to the pod. When you enter again, you will have a transparant object hanging there.

@3 People use hacks like crushing a spawn point with a heavy metal so when you die you end up at the finish point, instead of making the level where the spawn point moves over to the finish before you die.

HenryPSN before you level up your next character, I suggest you level up your comprehension first.

What article did you read to decide that it would be 0% compatible?  Your post makes no sense.  They've got to be in a bind.  I mean, they're being pressured to follow up one of the strongest games of recent years and they've got an impressive list of improvements.  But to have to go back and make sure that every combination from the old game will still work just seems endless!  At least they're being up front about it, and not surprising us on release day.

A bit disappointing, hopefully they work on this.

Well at least they're trying, and we know that the levels that don't make it through are a result of players exploiting the game.

Understandable. They can't be expected to replicate some of the glitches that people have managed to use to their advantage in levels.

2 millions plus levels, it dont suprise me really, that would be some feat if they managed it though

Some of those exploits would be I imagine the "glitches" to where people were able to put objects into the background, giving them more than just 3 layers to place thing. Another one I can think of was combining different materials to make walk through walls or something similar. Being able to change the material of the scoreboard, there really was a lot of glitches in the game until most of them got patched. But I think he is saying that LBP2 doesn't support those glitches from LBP1 so those levels that did use the glitches won't be able to be played. All others should work though. That's just my .02 cents.
