David Jaffe on why he lied about Twisted Metal PS3

Eat Sleep Play’s David Jaffe has spilled the beans as to why he continuously denied claims that his studio was developing a new Twisted Metal game for PlayStation 3 in the months leading up to E3.
In a nutshell, Jaffe wanted to ensure that fans were in for a surprise at the Los Angeles-based event, noting that in recent years new titles have either been announced or leaked a few weeks before things kicked off.
Speaking during a chinwag with Joystiq, Jaffe commented: “[E3] used to be about surprises. And it used to be you’d come and you didn’t know what you were going to find on the show floor and that was a big part of the fun and you walk from booth to booth and you just discover stuff.”
“And the last, I don’t know, four or five years everything gets either announced or leaked before and I was just like … Sony called about four months ago and said, ‘Let’s make Twisted a surprise and let’s close the show with it.’”
Of course, this meant Jaffe had to be a little economical with the truth, hence why he continuously shot down any hopes of seeing Twisted Metal at the show:
“I was like, ‘Hell yeah! Let’s do that.’ But it kind of necessitated being kind of sneaky about it. To me giving fans an actual genuine E3 surprise was more valuable to me than sort of being totally honest when people ask me questions,” he added.
Twisted Metal for PS3 is due out in 2011.

That was definitely a good surprise. I agree with what jaffe said about E3. It almost seems to me that the developers just can't wait to say what they are doing. Infact, more and more titles now I being announced within 1 to even 2 years before it's due, it's ridiculous. Yea, definitely a lack of cool surprises at E3 for quite a few years actually.

@ 5 you mean you want syphon filter on PS3, because syphon filter made a comeback on PSP :)
But on topic. I was too pissed that there was no Agent, Lost Guardian, or when Gabe Newell the a-whole came out he didn't say Left 4 Dead series, and no suprise new franchises, or eight Days or Getaway 3 announced as coming, and lastly the fact that they spent too much time on not announcing a new PSP and on move. Sony's E3 was really dissapointing to me. So when Twisted Metal finally got on, I wasn't really too happy at the moment.

Well... what do you know? Probably the only time that I will honestly be able to respect a developer for lying to me! How cool is THAT?!?!

syphon filter lolz. @6 but, seriously. i can see why he lied, people need to stop leaking stuff on games. like when MGS4 came out and gamers kept leaking game info out before other gamers even got it before the midnight release. i like surprises. especially in games and storys. so, i don't mind if david jaffe lied about twisted metal on ps3 or not, just as long as it stays on the ps3. I'm starting to like david jaffe.

@4 You're just a PSU Troll. He'll it's even in your name. Why do you even bother posting anything? You should at least think of something interesting to say.
@ Jaffe He\'s totally right about the whole E3 not being fun anymore. I remember a few years ago when you had NO IDEA what was going to be shown at E3 and when they announced new games the crowds would go wild. Where as now everything EVERYTHING is leaked before E3. We have nothing to look forward too. Well i\'m just saying they should at least keep a few suprises up their sleeves for the following year.

You know...I just thought of something! This has to be what they're doing to Final Fantasy 7..... Theres no way its going to take 30 years or so to recreate that game. I don't believe that statement for a minute. I so hope they end up anouncing final fantasy 7 at e3 in the years to come......That would be the biggest surprise of al!!!!!!!!!

HenryPSN.... don't you ever have anything thats ever good to say. I am beginning to think your an xbot in disguise lol. You're whole 3D argument the other day made you look like a fool. Scientist that thinks theres 300 billion people in the U.S. lol get real. Oh and what I don't understand is why people hate 3D so much when it's an option. It's not like you are forced to buy it. I like the ability to be able to play games in 3D if i choose. I just think your hating cause you can't afford a new 3D TV and you want Obama to redistribute one to you lol
