Rumor: PSP 2 features rear touch-sensitive controls

The next generation of PSPs will include touch-sensitive controls on the reverse of the unit, that is, according to development sources that spoke with Eurogamer. The PSP 2 will be roughly the same size as the current PSP-3000 version, and the screen will be quite detailed.
According to Eurogamer’s sources, many developers have already used the new PSP, which utilizes touch-sensitive controls on the rear of the device. These new, unfinished handheld systems are being shown to publishers, and Sony apparently already has a business model in place for the PSP 2.
Sources also believe the system could be out as early as the end of 2011, but it could be several years before it is released. This information, of course, is strictly rumors until Sony make some form of announcement. An announcement of this magnitude could come at TGS, but we’ll have to wait and see.

The rear touch-sensitive buttons could be used for L2/R2, depending on the shape.
They need to keep the launch price around £200

@3 That would be nice but lets face it .... What we want is a 3D enabled or 3D optional PSP2 ... At the moment the PSP2 is looking much more like PSP1 with a few minor bells and whistles.
It would make sense for them to go 3D, not because nintendo are doing it with there 3DS but when you look at the PS3 that will soon be playing out 3D games. If the PS3 can do it so can the PSP2.

I really believe that sony needs to listen to what the people want. They really need a homerun with the psp2 since the competition is outselling them and next to nothing support from sony.. Ive owned a psp3000 for 2 years now and I havent found a single new released game that I would spend 49.99 on. Id rather purchase a ps3 game

That would be cool and all, but why use touch-sensitive controls, which usually involve looking at them, at the rear of a device?
If it can play my existing UMDs, has a slot for an MS Duo (I have an expensive 16GB model), and better battery life and wi-fi, I'll get it day one.
