Capcom says it isn't "alienating" PS3 fans over Dead Rising 2 DLC

Capcom has denied that the Japanese giant is “alienating” PlayStation 3 owners following the announcement of exclusive downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version of Dead Rising 2.

The publisher announced during its Tokyo Game Show press event last week that it would be bringing the mini-chapter Case: West exclusively to the 360, which pairs Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene with original zombie killer Frank West.

However, co-producer Shinsaku Ohara insists that this isn’t a case of giving PS3 owners the short end of the stick; rather, it’s Capcom’s way of thanking gamers who purchased and subsequently facilitated the success of the original Dead Rising on Microsoft’s console four years ago.

“I think [Keiji] Inafune said that we’re sorry that it seems like you’re getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the full game,” Ohara told Eurogamer.

“You’ll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven’t completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product.”

“At the beginning we didn’t know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one.”

“So it’s like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans.”

Furthermore, Blue Castle Games’ Rob Barrett was quick to note that the story for the zombie sequel was designed to be complete without the addition of the recently released prologue Case: Zero and epilogue Case: West.

“The game was completely designed to be a self-contained and enjoyable experience, beginning to end, regardless of the prologue and the epilogue,”  commented Barrett.

So, let me get this straight. The PS3 version is missing the start and the real ending? PS3 fans everywhere become outraged and start to cancel their pre-orders. It gets so bad that Capcom has to release this statement. Yet, No PS3 owner with a once of self-respect would support something like this. The only way that Capcom will get the message that screwing PS3 owners to get some cash from M$soft is just not worth it, is to hit them where it hurts and flat out refuse to buy this game.

Wow... really? Is this what it's coming to? 1 of 2 things is happening here:

#1. MS paid them off for content exclusitvity and they are lying their immoral buttocks' off... pissing off hundreds of thousands of PS3 owners who don't even get the option to enhance their experience with the franchise.

#2. They truly have the attitude of rewarding those who made the franchise a success... in which case they pissing off hundreds of thousands of PS3 owners who don't even get the option to enhance their experience with the franchise.

In either case, it seems as though they are putting themselves into a position where the financial success of this installment in the franchise won't be nearly as beneficial to them.

    What a bunch of numbnuts!

PS3 gamers haven't played the first game because it didn't come out on PS3. But it's not their fault that Capcom decided to go Xbox 360 only for that title. So why don't PS3 fans at least get a thankyou for putting up with that exclusivity? The DLC isn't a thankyou, it's an Xbox 360 incentive, paid for by Msoft. Capcom, you are making some pretty unpopular decisions this generation, further compounded by your inability to come clean about them, treating gamers like idiots. Do you think Japanese PS3 gamers feel a tad alienated about Monster Hunter Frontier going to Xbox 360 only? Or are you 'thanking' Xboxers for the success of Monster Hunter on Sony's PS2/ PSP?

Wow MS is really scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Bribing capcom for exclusive content to a game that few people actually care about.

I was concidering getting this game for novelty sakes and another zomnbie flavour to my library but Capcom can kiss my backside. That reason is such a load of rubbish, and if they had brains they would realise that if the dlc was multiplat it would both reward the dr1 fans and draw in more dr2 ps3 fans to the franchise. Oh well, €60ish freed up for another game.
