SEGA 'reasonably encouraged' by Vanquish sales

SEGA West bigwig Mike Hayes has said the company is ‘reasonably encouraged’ by initial sales of its cover-based shooter Vanquish, though conceded the launch of a new IP in such a competitive market was always going to prove challenging.

The brainchild of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, Vanquish received a relatively positive response from critics though failed to set the charts alight, debuting at number 12 in the UK.

Chatting with IGN, Hayes observed that it's still too early to tell how the game will perform in the long run: "It's been in the marketplace for two days, we've seen the day one numbers and we're reasonably encouraged, but I think we need to see the rest of week one and probably week two just to see how it's going to play out," he said.

"The challenge is that it's a new franchise and that it's releasing head-to-head with a lot of established franchises in the busiest time of the year."

    I really liked this game but it is ridiculously short. Took me 6 hours on hard! You could easily finish in 4 on Casual. It also has a stupid ending which is an obvious attempt at plugging a sequel.

    I'm all for setting up sequels, but not at the expensive of the game itself, which Vanquish feels like.

    Everything else is perfect, action is fluid and fast paced and graphics are great.

    I'm just mopping up now for the trophies, Only need 4 more for the platinum XD

    @GoldenPlayer

    Well, obviously you weren't "one of the first", since you didn't get the beta key.

    Also, PSN+ wasn't a great service to start with.

    Clearly you weren't. I downloaded it 15-20 minutes after the theme was upped and got my beta code last night.

     I was going to buy it, but all reviews mentioned how short the game was, bummer. From what i have read from people who bought it, it really is a short game. I'll probably buy it when they lower the price. a 6 hour game is not worth $60.00 imo.
